2005 World Championships in Montreal Canceled? Moved to Long Beach? Confusion Reigns
By Phillip Whitten
MONTREAL, Quebec, Canada, December 21. THE 2005 FINA World Swimming Championships will not be held in Montreal, according to a report issued just 10 minutes ago by the presse canadienne.
However, Harold Cliff, Special Adviser and Competition Director for the World Championships told SwimInfo that the report was "premature," indicating that the Organizing Committee would be given an extension until January 17, 2005 to come up with the funding needed to support the meet. "We will be issuing an update later today," he said.

I hope for Aunt K and lala's sake that Montreal can come up with the money in time. Montreal with all it's French speaking men would be a much more interesting destination.

Oui oui, Michelle, et les hommes canadiens français sont délicieux
- Dana (travaux pour une compagnie française, habités à Paris le printemps dernier)
(translation: Michelle is right, French Canadian men are delicious, I work for a French/Quebecois company, I lived in Paris last spring)
If not Montreal - if not Long Beach - where is your "dream destination?" If NYC could get this together in the Javitz Center or in (fantasyland ...) Madison Square Garden, and if it went smoothly and successfully, it'd be a powerful vote of confidence for NYC2012. Plus, only a three-hour drive for the Hansens. :) A girl can dream, eh?

The french men part is a very good point Michelle. And i happen to know a few hot Montreal French Canadians, but they could never stand a chance against Brendan ;) -- ANYWAY I've been to Canada and it isnt all that great. I hate exchanging our money for theres yada yada. Besides if its in Long Beach...i'll be hella more excited cause ive always wanted to go to Cali!
Although according to the person who wants to not be identified "....there are no hotel rooms available."
Right.
Then where did all those people stay last time it was on Long Beach? *ponders*

The blog did not like my French characters. Oh well.

Dear Lord, this just keeps getting more complicated by the day. Clearly they need a wise businesswoman with an obsession I mean passion for swimming to step in and take control of this event. *Raises hand to volunteer*. I'm almost bilingual too, je parle francais. Un peu. Je peux dire "natation" avec un accent Americain et prendre les photos de Brendan a la meme temps. Do I have the job, FINA?

Sorry, I had to repost because this post looked horrible with all the rejected french punctuation. =)
If it's in NY, I am going. That's all there is to it. Basically anywhere in the northeast or one of the Atlantic states and I am gonna make it there! Anywhere else, I have to see what happens.
I feel bad for everyone who already paid for tickets and flights.
J'ai etudie le francais pendant six annees. Je prefere les nageurs americains et leurs beaux freres au lieu des hommes canadiens francais Ils sont plus jolis ! Vous des types pouvez jouer avec tous les Canadiens francais que vous voulez ! =)

Stephie Mc, at 12/21/2004 4:33 PM
J'ai etudie francais deux ans a l'ecole mais ca e etait huit ans apres (no accents, cause the blog does not get them)
My dream choice? Buenos Aires, of course. I jsut provide room for some of you in my house and my friend's homes. And then, after the WR, we can all party with Brendan. Pumpkin, this is a city that never sleeps. Great night life.
And seriously, FINA should hire us. We're devoted to swimmers...er...Swimming. I speak five languages, I can help Hoogie, Thorpey, Bren Bear, Meolans and some french and italian all in their native tongues.

Lena, at 12/21/2004 5:07 PM
I don't know if I could fly oversees for WC, but if they moved it to Buenos Aires I would find a way so I could have fun with Lena! Wheeeee! =)

Am I the first over here with the news that Brendan's dropping the opening puck at the Philly Phantoms hockey game on Dec. 29th?
Anyone up for some hockey? :)

I am sad and beyond any kind of consolation.
By
lala, at 12/21/2004 6:14 PM
The whole hockey game thing sounds like fun. Good for him! About the championships,I have doubts that FINA will let it be cancelled completely. That's alot of money to just throw away even if they do have to come up with alot more to get it going. If not,we can stage our own for just a few swimmers. :D We could make them swim all 5 events and lenghts just for us. I'm not sure what the prizes would be but I'm sure we could come up with something.

Hmm a BHO Swim meet.....SIGN ME UP!!! I'd be happy to volunteer for that!!
Yeah I am crossing my fingers that the World Champs aren't cancelled..which I dont think it would be. I plan on going as long as its somewhere in North America. I do know that regardless..I will be in Indy for World Trials in April:)

I would love to see Trindad have a major swimming championship. It could do wonders for the sport in our country. True we only have one 50m pool in the entire country (Can you believe that?!?) but if it's good enough for George, it's good enough.
By
Dana, at 12/22/2004 6:13 AM
Dana ... LOVING the idea of Trinidad. Let's hit the beach! - The other Dana
By
Dana Cara, at 12/22/2004 9:31 AM
Beaches, hon, beaches. We've been known to go to three different locations in one day. And let me say that the swimmers would probably want to stay for a vacation after because Trinidad is what we call a trap. You get in and then for some reason you never want to leave. Everytime I leave here, I literally yearn for home.

Oooh about the puck drop thing! I wish I lived closer to Philly right now, you're combining my 2 of my fave sports, swimming and hockey.
Now if you tell me Brendan (and/or Sean) play hockey as well, I don't know what I'll do, but I'm sure it'll involve a lot of squeeing and fantasizing about hip checks in the corners! ;)
By
JHD, at 12/22/2004 12:58 PM
no, bren/sean dont play hockey, but I can tell you they LOVE it, and are going thru NHL withdrawal! as is the rest of us crazed Flyers fans...
as for the dulce de leche - i think it was "nogoodnamesleft" who said you had some, thank you! i'm going to check the city markets 2day(yes i am in philly) and lena thanks for the suggestion, but it sounds like i would probably burn my house down..may be worth it though!
By
swimphilly78, at 12/22/2004 1:37 PM
i meant as ARE the rest of us flyers fan...i need to stop hitting the bottle at work!
By
swimphilly78, at 12/22/2004 1:40 PM
Flyers fans? I thought you said you liked hockey. ;) (Sorry I'm a Lightning fan, it had to be said)
Can they at least skate? Of course, if I have to teach them how, that's not a problem either, but I'd prefer if they already knew how. heheh
By
JHD, at 12/22/2004 1:53 PM
WHAT!!?? a lightening fan in this blog?!? I am SO telling bren/sean!! they will not be pleased!!
actually I was crushin on Vinnie LeCavalier during the series. ugh, now I am depressed. pass the tequila!
By
swimphilly78, at 12/22/2004 2:49 PM
swimphilly, JHD: You are both so right. This lockout is the worst. The french canadian guys I work with have taken to watching American football. They don't have a clue what's going on, they just sit there depressed. I really miss my Devils. I hope the Lightning survive this lockout financially.

"WHAT!!?? a lightening fan in this blog?!? I am SO telling bren/sean!! they will not be pleased!!"
Uh, oops. I will say the only reason I'm a Lightning fan is because I went to school with one of their d-men (my best friend was friends with him so I kinda sorta knew him), and I had to root for him. Usually I'm a Stars fan (two words...Mike Modano), so does that help at all? =)

You all have it wrong! The Avs and Bruins rule! I forgive you Flyers fans because I know its only geography which has caused you to like them in the first place. I forgive JHD too, because she has her own reasons to like who she likes. Hopefully Brendan & Sean will foregive me for this one! =)
By
Stephie Mc, at 12/22/2004 3:18 PM
Now I feel left out because I have never even watched hockey. Now if it was baseball I could bond with y'all. I'm still depressed that Randy Johnson still might end up with the Yankees. I refuse to be a Yankee fan, dang it. Not even for Randy. If only I had my Mariners the way they were...A-Rod,Griffey,Randy,Martinez...(tear slides down). I know baseball is over for the year but not in my heart...lol.
By
blairbecky, at 12/22/2004 3:24 PM
OK, the Bruins I'll give you because of Bobby Orr, Cam Neely and Ray Bourque. Boston had some great players.
But please tell me the only reason you like the Avs is because Bourque got his Cup there. Because that's the only logical reason for liking the Avs.

Is anyone going to the trials in Indy? I sure am! Aunt C, Aunt K...I will gladly hold a Bren-Bear sign.

shockingly I think it might work out that I'm on a business trip in Indy during trials. So maybe. :)

By
LongHornLove, at 12/22/2004 3:39 PM
I so want to go to Indy! I just researched it though. If I want to stay somewhere decent it will end up taking about $1200 from my Beijing 2008 fund so alas, my Bren-Bear sign holding days will have to wait. =(
By
Stephie Mc, at 12/22/2004 3:46 PM
JHD - Avs=Joe Sakic WoooHoo! It has nothing to do with Bourque because I liked them even before Bourque went there. (Although I miss Drury being there! =( ) I'm also a big Adam Foote(YUM!), Milan Hejduk, Peter Forsberg, and Tommy Salo fan. The only guy I don't like is that Kariya kid, but that's because I went to BU and he went to U Maine and BU hates U Maine almost as much as Boston College!
I could actually like the Phantoms. They have a BU player on their roster (Freddy Myer, who is awesome and cute!) He won't be playing at the game Bren is dropping the puck at though because he has a hernia. OUCH!
blairbecky - You MUST NOT become a Yankees fan under any circumstances! I like you too much to allow that to happen!
Sort of off-topic, but does anyone know if one can get one of THESE USA Swimming hockey jerseys? I love them and want one desperately!
By
Stephie Mc, at 12/22/2004 4:00 PM
Stephie,I will only make it to Indy for a couple of days. I'm only 2 hours from there so we just stay over night. It ended up costing my friend and I about $200 each for everything. We could always just rent a couple of rooms and shove everyone in. Either that or we could start the Women Who Have To See Swimmers fund again.
By
blairbecky, at 12/22/2004 4:11 PM
I am a lucky girl! I live in Indiana (South Bend..), my sister and brother both live in Indy so I stay for free. On top of that...my brother-in-law works for a merchandising company downtown. He lets me use his parking space...so free parking! For anyone who is going and would like to know where to go for fun..let me know I would happily oblige.
I just realized most of my posts are run-on sentences and completely incoherent. My spell check also change some words for me. Sorry for the errors. I have no brain cells left after a traumatic political science final. I could stop blaming my computer and just admit that I am stupid. LOL!
By
Kimberly, at 12/22/2004 4:58 PM
Kimberly, I am not sure which meet I will be attending (Indy trials or Worlds). I guess I am waiting to see where Worlds will end up. Uncle B will have to take off from work and hold down the fort (which he graciously has done in the past). Which ever meet we attend..we will let everyone know.
By
Aunt "C", at 12/22/2004 8:39 PM
Aunt C...I'm not going to try and sway you...but Indiana is so much better then Montreal or even the LBC (ok so I am not hip on Snoop and I don't think I used that right, but everyone can just laugh at me as usual!). OK, so we are not at all cooler then either, but in the land of the Hoosier's you get to hear us pronounce words funny. For instance; For=fur..ie "yes those are on sale...3 "fur" a dollar. See, where else can you have so much fun? I defy you to try!
By
Kimberly, at 12/22/2004 9:04 PM
I would LOVE to go to Indy in April or Worlds..wherever they will be held. the only thing is money and i would probably have to go alone. My friends arent exactly swimming fans. or at least not enough to spend money to go to a swim meet. What to do???!!!? any suggestions?
By
jenny, at 12/22/2004 11:00 PM
Yeah I'm def going to Indy Trials...I got the ticket info...now I just gotta find someone willing to split a room cause that tends to be the most expensive part!
By
LongHornLove, at 12/22/2004 11:37 PM
Well, LonghornLove, i take it you live in Austin?? if you do then we need to talk. im all about splitting a room.
By
jenny, at 12/23/2004 12:10 AM
Jenny-sadly..no i dont live in Austin..I'll be living in Ann Arbor Mi after this week bc of school. But yeah I'm all game for splitting rooms, especially with fellow BHO-ers!

A hockey-related thread on a swimmer's site? Heaven, man, heaven. Two of my favorite topics. Does Brendan like the sport? I know it was reported that he will be at a Philly Phantoms game, so...
BTW, I am a San Jose Sharks fan. Miss my boys, especially Patrick Marleau, Brad Stuart, Scott Hannan, etc.
I agree with what someone said about Kariya. I used to love him a lot, but the boy just hasn't produced a good season since he was teamed with Teemu in Anaheim. I have a feeling both their careers are nearing an end.
Okay, I will stop now before I start ranting about the lockout.

Im planning on going to Indy also in April. Where did you find the ticket info at? I live in KY so it won't be too far of a drive for me, but Im still planning on getting a hotel or staying with some friends in the area. I don't post much bc my jail of a work internet will only let me read, but not post on BHO. Although I am on the site several times a day and love everything about it. Thank you to The Hanson family and especially to Brendan for being such an amazing person on top of the best Breaststroker in the world. Also thanks to Michelle and everyone else that is on this site.....it is as awesome as BrenBear.
By
Kate, at 12/23/2004 3:23 PM
Kate, where at in Ky? I'm in Henderson if you know where that is. Also,I doubt they will post anything about Indy till they know if there will be a WC.

I live in Louisville, so I'm only about 2 hours from Indy as well. My friend (who is a huge fan of Aaron P's) and I are planning on going. Maybe we could all meet up at the Indiana border and drive up together....Im game for creating a Brendan cheering section and afterparty :)
Indy is a great town to go out in, we went out after Worlds and had an awesome time.
