Making Monday a little brighter

Ok, he's 5 and taking his tanning soooo seriously. And what do 5 year olds listen to on headphones?

The proud hunter (I have a feeling this one didn't get thrown back).

A shot we are all too familiar with by now.

  • Adorable like always :D And good question -- what do 5 yr olds listen to on headphone...*ponders*. I know i had headphones when i was 5 but i never listened to anything

  • Oh Michelle, I do enjoy reading your captions....I am just cracking up at his feet in the first picture. For such a little guy, such large breaststroker feet and love the expression on his face.

By Blogger Aunt K, at 12/13/2004 11:52 AM

  • Well, when I was 5 I knew all the words to all the songs on MTv. :D I even remember the first video was Video Killed the Radio Star. I also used to tape videos off of MTv so I could watch them whenever I wanted. That's back when they actually played videos though. I had a walkman and a little pink radio. Even today I think I have like 4 discmans and 2 mp3 players. It seems like every Christmas I get a new one. Does anyone else get the same thing for Christmas every year...lol? It's the thought that counts and I do appreciate the gifts. That was completely off subject as usual.

I love the 3rd pic. Even then he looks like he had perfect form. Bren looks like he was quite the sun baby. Now wouldn't it be cute if he had a pic like the coppertone baby. :P

  • "The proud hunter (I have a feeling this one didn't get thrown back)."

Why do I have this image of him trying to throw it back, and it went up in a big arc and landed back on the ground? Ok, just me? Moving on, then. =)

By Blogger JHD, at 12/13/2004 12:00 PM

  • Awww..more great pics!

I took my tanning pretty seriously at 5 as I recall. The 2nd one just kills me - Brendan's all about the hunting. Of the 3 though, number 3 is my favorite..gotta love seeing that form already coming along at such a young age.

Alright, I should be ok for 24 hours until our pic-dealer Michelle gives us more tomorrow! (And I'm holding out hope for USA Swimming for tomorrow too unless they want me to take some drastic measures! That's not a threat, its a promise. I'm talkin to you, Bob Schaller! HAHA!) =)

  • Just popping by, because I do that sometimes!
    Those pics are just, awwwwww.
Little Brendan tanning is the cutest!
When I was 5 I believe you could find me in the driveway jamming out with my Fisher Price tape player. I was all kinds of into Madonna and Michael Jackson. Thankfully my taste in music has improved over the years!

By Blogger PuarKat, at 12/13/2004 12:58 PM

  • Ohh so much to comment on for me!! Firstly, I think if you listen really close to the first snap, you can hear the song "Eye of the Tioger". What I really love about it, is that you can see he even has the littel squirt bottle lying there in case he gets too hot so he can mist himself real quick like.

JHD.... oh my sister, you are one sick thing! I laughed so hard at the visiual of the little Brendan trying to thow back that innocent victim!
The third pic, great. I love that someone took such a getty images type photo of this little guy. I really love action shots. I want to take a really fast camera to Montreal to get this kind of shot but I am not actually made of money... so I will probably have to use some crazy old camera that has a plastic lens and takes really slow speed film.

And Brendan, could you and Jack please go re-inact the copppertone add for us now and get someone to photograph it? I now it wont be as "cutie cute" as it would have been if you were three, but I guarantee that we would really really appreciate it! ;)

Isn't the dog named Jack? I almost called it Max, but that is the name of Thorpey's chocolate lab.

  • You know what really resonates in these pictures? That he's well-loved. You can see where the family was just heartstoppingly enchanted by this five year waterbug with huge feet and headphones. With backing like that it's no wonder he (and his brother) are so successful ... Dana

  • And his sister...

By Blogger Michelle, at 12/13/2004 1:26 PM

  • Hee, tanning Brendan is such a cutie. I think I started listening to music when I was 8-9. New Kids on the Block were my first love! Ah, the good ol' days.

I guess Brendan was just born with those great shoulders!

By Blogger Janine, at 12/13/2004 1:34 PM

  • Awwww...love all the little kiddie pics.

When I was 5 I was a dancing fool. I had one of the Fisher Price cassette players with the microphone that I could sing along with whatever was my musical choice of the day. Mostly it was Michael Jackson (don't judge me I was 5!). My cousins and I would have "concerts" and charge admission.

    Also- who's the other Dana?

By Blogger Dana, at 12/13/2004 1:51 PM

  • and his sister! :) Sorry, didn't mean to neglect her.

oh my gosh, another Dana, I never run into that in real life. I'm usually the one and only. Ha. Hi Other Dana :)

    - D

  • Am I the only one who noticed that he has a spray bottle next to him! He WAS a hard-core tanner! LOL! He was definitely preparing to be a ladies man! I bet he was one of those little boys who ran around trying to kiss all the little girls! I bet LaLa would let herself get caught! LOL!

By Blogger Kimberly, at 12/13/2004 2:11 PM

  • Pretty pics!

I used to listen to Festilindo and Cantanino when I was 5. And Tuidos y Ruiditos. I love that one.
I realize I'm still throwing names at you you have no idea what they are...

He's quite the hunter, uh? So many things I can comment on the art of hunting... but... I promise to be lady like.

By Blogger Lena, at 12/13/2004 2:58 PM

  • "oh my gosh, another Dana, I never run into that in real life. I'm usually the one and only. Ha. Hi Other Dana :)"

Hee, it's like a Dana convention here....does this make me the Third Dana? ;)

And lala, I'm glad there's someone out there who gets my humor. Most of the time I get blank stares, or sadly shaking heads.

By Blogger JHD, at 12/13/2004 3:06 PM

  • Ha! Kimberly! Not only did I get caught, but I got caught getting caught! I was always getting teased about it. ...How did you know?

By Blogger lala, at 12/13/2004 4:30 PM

  • Lala,

I didn't know but know I do ;) I just thought that little lala would let herself get caught by little bren-bear! (haha the name still cracks me up...i think anyone going to montreal needs to make bren-bear tee-shirts! lol!)I just know that little Kimmy (that would be me!) would have loved to play kiss tag with little Brendan (nope I like Bren-Bear better!). When I was 5 my mom asked me what my favorite game at school was and I answered "kissing-tag!" I think she about pulled me out of my (catholic mind you) pre-school!

By Blogger Kimberly, at 12/13/2004 5:03 PM

  • When I was 5 I think I was too busy running around trying to hide my Madonna cassette from my parents to worry about tanning. EEK.

By Blogger Verbal, at 12/13/2004 5:37 PM

  • well, i just finished my last final and i am extra happy now that there are new pics. the third is definately the best...foreshadowing what is to come...=)

By Blogger jenny, at 12/13/2004 5:38 PM

  • Well, I think this medication had finally made me lost it. I had this huge craving for (are you ready?).... flowers.
I bought 4 bouquets in one day... they all look gorgeus and I got them cheap, but still, 4 bouquets in 3 hours, more precisely.

    anyway, what is kissing-tag?

By Blogger Lena, at 12/13/2004 5:58 PM

  • Kiss-Tag is when you just run after someone and kiss them and run away. My sisters are 12 and 9 years older then me (i also have a brother who is 11 years older then me but that is not the point of this story;p )My sisters told me when I was little that I should play kiss tag with the boys because it is fun. So of course I did, because they were cool and I wanted to be cool. Ha Ha Ha..my mom sure didn't think I was cool. Sad that my love life peaked at 5!

By Blogger Kimberly, at 12/13/2004 7:53 PM

  • yeah,.. we play "semaforo" instead. You know, like traffic lights. The boys would all line up, the girls would start walking and each boy, depending on what type of kiss would say red, yellow or green.
I play that when I was 11 I guess... old days.
I cannot believe I just confessed that

By Blogger Lena, at 12/13/2004 8:06 PM

  • Oh man, now you guys are bringing back memories. I used to play kiss-tag with this guy named Chuck that had the most gorgeous green eyes! HAHA! =) I think I was around 8 or 9. I think I actually started liking boys around 5 and have gotten progressively worse since! HAHA! =)

By Blogger Stephie Mc, at 12/13/2004 8:34 PM

  • I don't remember kissing boys when I was little. I do remember tagging along after my brother's friends but that's about it. I do know that we had this big hill behind our house with woods at the bottom. We would take turns riding my cabbage patch big wheel down the hill. It was fun in the fall because you could make a big pile of leaves at the bottom. We were easily amused as children...lol. We also used to clump around in the woods or follow the railroad tracks picking blackberries. The good ol' days.

By Blogger blairbecky, at 12/13/2004 8:41 PM

  • big wheels= bad memories

i had the shortest little legs so i could not ride my big wheel unless someone pushed me from behind! how sad is that!

By Blogger Kimberly, at 12/13/2004 9:00 PM

  • Bren Bear could have been a model for 'any' suntan lotion company when he was a toddler. Wait a minute, what am I talking about, he could 'still' be one, =).

I cannot believe how big his feet were when he was a tot, lol.

By Blogger Maria, at 12/13/2004 9:22 PM

  • Hey..new blogger here **waves to everyone**! I've been coming to this site for awhile now, and I finally made myself sign up and post a comment.

-Who knew that Bren's cute little tot pics would bring back so many memories?

-And who knew that so many of us were playing kiss-tag back in the day?

By Blogger LongHornLove, at 12/13/2004 11:50 PM

  • LongHornLove - Welcome to the Brendan Blog. Post often!

Maria - I completely agree. I hope his agent is working on that.

As long as we are getting confessional about kiss tag...the closest experience I had to that was when I was nine or ten I was visiting my cousins and this little kid down the street, Kevin, trapped me on the front porch of my Aunts house and kissed me on the cheek while my cousins held me down. I didn't enjoy it at all and in fact felt completely betrayed by my cousins and by my aunt who wouldn't let me in the house when I was screaming for her. I cried and cried. That I can still remember that kids name so many years later is telling i think.

Ok, so now that I've been a total downer, just wait till you see the photo i'm posting tomorrow. There is nothing so attractive as a man who dances with his mom.

By Blogger Michelle, at 12/14/2004 12:27 AM

  • Michelle, you tease. As if your captions weren't already killing me! (In the good way.) JHD, like a boomerang, eh? ;-)

Incidentally, someone in the Hansen family is a fab photographer, these pictures are all so fantastic. That third one really *could* be on Getty. You can see how great his form is even back then.

I have no recollection of listening to music at age 5. I did, however, have a habit of singing along to the theme songs for 3-2-1 Contact ("3! 2! 1! Contact...is the answer....is the reason..." I think I may be making up the words now.) and its affiliate Bloodhound Gang ("We're the Bloodhound Gang!") Good times.

By Blogger crackinup, at 12/14/2004 12:59 AM

  • Ooh, I loved 3-2-1 Contact crackinup! My favorite was Square One though (anyone remember that?). You gotta love PBS and educational programming.

Brendan and his mom dancing? Squee! Can it get any better than this??

By Blogger Janine, at 12/14/2004 2:03 AM

  • Speaking of Square One, wasn't there also Circle Square. Oh and Mathnet. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?

By Blogger Dana, at 12/14/2004 5:16 AM

  • I'm lost! I don't remember any of those. I did love Fraggle Rock and even later on Kids Incorporated. I even woke up early for mousercise. Anyone remember that?

  • Well, off to the doctors one more time. I jsut hope they get it right this time cause I cannot stand being sick anymore.
On related news, I bought bouquet number 5 today: orange roses. My house looks like a flower shop.
    Is there something as flowerholic?

By Blogger Lena, at 12/14/2004 9:26 AM

  • "just wait till you see the photo i'm posting tomorrow."

Michelle, has anyone told you that you are an eevviiilll tease yet?? ;) But hey, it worked (heheh), I'll be here tomorrow.

    Maria =)

By Blogger Maria, at 12/14/2004 10:30 AM

  • Oh my gosh, I used to watch Kids Incorporated and Fraggle rock like they were going out of style..come to think of it, they did go out of style..haha!

By Blogger LongHornLove, at 12/14/2004 11:46 AM

  • I watched 3-2-1 Contact too, but you also can't forget Morgan Freeman as EZ Reader on The Electric Company! I think the kids' schedule on PBS was Sesame Street, Electric Company, then 3-2-1 Contact.

  • Yep, that's exactly as I remember it too Verbal! I watched the entire lineup (though 321 Contact was still my favorite, because you see, I've always been a little bit of a nerd). And Kids Incorporated. And Fraggle Rock. Man, the 80s were great.
