Wednesday Night Chat Recap

by afadingvoice...thanks babe xoxox

After a mass exodus of the majority of the European contingent that had stayed up all night waiting for him to come on, our pumkin arrives. He had been finishing up a school project and apologized for his delay, but was stoked to be done with it.

Home Life/Spare (in theory) Time
  • Owns a Sleigh Bed (apparently from the Pottery Barn). That plus his 12534633 count thread sheets,no wonder why it's "heaven."

  • Will be getting a pool for the house. For training purposes. Right? Oh no. It's for "chillin'" and with a hot tub "fo' sho.'" It'll help because he's sore 90% of the time. *Cue line for massage volunteers*

  • When he hunts,he mostly goes for birds, but will hunt deer. AN: this is where I stick my fingers in my ears, close my eyes, and start humming.

  • His duck Hank is safe at the pond at the end of his street, which he passes by every day. A collective sigh of relief is heard throughout the BHO world.

Upcoming Events
  • He's still hoping Worlds will be in Canada. The closer in distance, the better.

  • He'll be in Atlanta this June. What for? Now if he told you, he'd have to kill you.

  • There will be a clinic in Irvine in May. Anyone can attend. Cali. folks should set up a meeting.

Oh yeah...Swimming/Training
  • He is able to bench press 265 pounds. (producing a collective gasp among the girls, who quickly tried to calculate how many of each of us there was in weight). AN: Can I even press the bar by itself?

  • He prefers long course to short course because there are less turns, which can get pretty tiring. Secretly though,Brendan is afraid of reliving his childhood nightmare of coming out of a turn into the neighboring lane.

  • His IM is coming along nicely. He can always comfort himself in knowing he'll have the fastest breaststroke split out of anyone.

  • A normal workout is 7000 yards "of hell."

  • Swimsuit of choice in Nike. Surprised? He owns hundreds of suits cause he gets the hook up from Nike. This summer he wore a new suit every time he swam. So is there a special discarded swimsuit can next to all the recycling bins at meets or something? Suits can run $200 a pop. Brendan rationalizes this by saying we spend all that money on underwear. $200? Me thinks not. Who are we? Mandy Moore?

Bonus Tidbits
  • He talked with Dave Denniston's father. They will know more how things are in a month once swelling has gone down. He'll continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

  • Not even a chat will delay Brendan from keeping his pearly whites clean.

  • He owns more than one pair of cowboy boots. He lives in Texas. Are you surprised? The real question is can he line dance?

  • When asked what he gave up for Lent,he said hasn't decided yet (times a' ticking hun), but he usually gives up soda.

  • We never need to talk about Facebook...again.

  • Brendan is a well-traveled guy. He's been to 42 states off the top of his head. Even Wisconsin.

  • When suggesting what sort of club we should start Brendan suggested a chess club and dismissed the idea of a fight club. You see he's a "lover, not a fighter." Works for me.

  • Brendan likes to wear "smelly stuff." Not just any stuff. "Pleasant smelling stuff." Thus throwing off my idea he was trying to pass chlorine off as cologne. FYI girls: Deisel is a new favorite scent.

  • Good work on the recap! Couldn't help but notice that his thoughts on Ian Thorpe weren't included! Lol.
Pumkin, as always, thanks for letting us into your world!

  • Thanks for the recap - had no staying power last night (damn the time difference)Will take a nap next time!
    sounded like fun, again!

*wave of jealousy has just hit me*

  • Great recap! I couldn't make this one (too much studying) but it sounds like was so much fun (as always) :)

By Blogger _cesca_, at 2/10/2005 5:44 AM

  • *sobs* I knew it, as soon as I leave Brendan shows up.

Thanks to whoever asked my swimsuit question...now I know and can wonder no more.

Thanks for the recap afadingvoice. =)

By Blogger Stephie Mc, at 2/10/2005 6:04 AM

  • what did he say about ian thorpe?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at 2/10/2005 6:14 AM

  • Woohooo Kris!! Good lord girl, how late did you stay up doing that ? Cause I know i left you at like 2:15am.

    *sidenote*....red flag! red flag! :-x

But lovely job!! Im proud =)

By Blogger Kim, at 2/10/2005 6:41 AM

  • Great recap Kris. One of these days I might actually be able to make it through a whole chat. Dang work and that whole being there on time thing. :p

Yay for Hank. I knew he was safe and sound somewhere. Sounds like y'all covered everything. Good thing Bren can lift some serious weight. This will help him in case I do actually tackle him at first sight....heehee.

I'm in a really good mood this morning so I just wanted to wish everyone a great day. Cheesy,I know, but I totally mean it. :)

P.S. Great to hear about Dan. The more he hears from the people that care about him the better. Still praying...

By Blogger blairbecky, at 2/10/2005 7:30 AM

  • OH! I knew as soon as I went to bed Brendan would come. :( Oh well, sounds like you guys got all the questions answered...Im still wondering what cologne he wears? Diesel?

I think the meet is back on in Canada if Im reading all the swim sites correctly. Which is good news for the Hansen crew.

It was great chatting with you girls last night. Oh and swimphilly...I have a suite in Ft Lauderdale if you change your mind about Nationals.

afadingvoice...you were vague about the plans in Alanta in June...what is that all about?

And hey Brendan...just because you are chatting now with us on Wednesdays don't neglect us on the blog...especially for us early to bed gals. We are missing out on all the fun.

By Blogger Kate, at 2/10/2005 7:31 AM

  • Now I'm not in such a great mood. Montreal gets it back and now I might not be able to go. Where I work someone has already taken that week for their vacation and they won't let more than one person take a week. I'm already plotting on ways to get to go but what if my friend can't. I'm happy for everyone who was planning on going though. At least you get to see them compete after all.

By Blogger blairbecky, at 2/10/2005 7:54 AM

  • Diesel is hot, went out with a guy a couple of nights ago who was wearing that. Apparently it got big in Australia before it got big here. My astrology says I am very scent oriented, btw Diesel and the accent, it was definitely tickling me.

Montreal getting Worlds back makes me feel hideous about that suicide. But both H and I have some Montreal expertise and can help route bloggers, aunts and extra special Lyneas to fun non-pool-related activities.

Hey Brendan: no sledding, OK? NO SLEDDING. Clearly this is a nonissue in Austin but when you get to Wisconsin or wherever.

Anyone going anywhere fun soon? I've got Memphis on the docket for next month, also Indianapolis, maybe Minneapolis, and then Miami, Puerto Rico and the Saint Islands in April.

    DC

By Blogger Dana Cara, at 2/10/2005 8:08 AM

  • thanks for the recap afadingvoice. last night was fun. i had to tune out of the hunting discussion also because that was a little too much for me to stomach and the difference between underwear and swimsuits is the fact that he only used them once. there you go. glad to know he doesnt use axe.

when he said 'chillin' and 'fo sho' i was rolling.
    good times.

    best ash wednesday ever.
    hands down.

    By Blogger pickford76, at 2/10/2005 8:31 AM

  • whoa! hold up! before I even broach the WC subject - Bren actually showed up last night!?!! After my head repeatedly hit the keyboard from fatigue - he showed?!?! my first chat, and I miss it. Rats.
KATE! see what happens when get to bed early cuz of siwmming!??! he doesnt appreciate that, and you and I deserve our OWN chat.
Man up, Brendan! But it was nice to say hi to grandma. And to chat with you ladies.

Ok, now...WC is back in Montreal??? Is this for real? Or our friendly nothern neighbors going to pull another "hee hee you silly little americans...Psych!"
We have to make plans! I have to cancel the cruise! I have to order Aunt K her meds! I have to stock up on Jack Daniels!!!
DC it is your job to restrain me...I cannot be responsible for my actions if there is another "dolphin" incident...I need one of those electric doggie collars so you can ZAP if I get to rowdy.

    so bitter...so very bitter....

    By Blogger swimphilly78, at 2/10/2005 8:43 AM

  • Aaah, amazing end of a...morning. I'd like to thank everyone present for making the - albeit a bit long - wait so enjoyable. You're all amazing people and I couldn't have done it without you. (Look at me, sounding like I just won an oscar...)
I'd also like to thank Brendan of course for showing up and making my day, it was well worth the wait.

I hope to do this more often, though with the time restraints it will be a challenge. Poppy we'll tackle this hurdle together, same goes for tinkerbell. ;)
And thank you afadingvoice for not only being a complete laugh, but also writing down such a great reminder of the evening. Lena, Michelle, Eville, Megan, Laura, everyone there; thank you!

    (Lo and behold, I posted!)

By Blogger Silawen, at 2/10/2005 9:15 AM

  • Swimphilly: Haven't gotten confirmation on Worlds going back to Montreal, but it is a very live swriting rumor, our boards are abuzz about it. If it happens, and we get Jack Daniels, electric buzz collars, and, knowing you and Heather and having faith in blairbecky, Stephanie Mc, Lena, lala and the others, we'll probably wind up launching M80s and dolphin plates off the roof and shooting them with Pennsylvania-purchased hunting rifles. Just like Duck Hunt in Nintendo. I loved that game.

By Blogger Dana Cara, at 2/10/2005 9:21 AM

  • I can't believe I missed the chat! Oh well, there's always next time (and thanks for the recap).

As for Montreal, it is official that worlds will be there. Here's the press release

By Blogger pixley, at 2/10/2005 9:27 AM

  • You loved Duck Hunt? Past tense? I still PLAY Duck Hunt. Let me tell you, nothing gets a guy's attention like walking into a girl's apartment and seeing she has old-school Nintendo with a ginormous stack of games.

Oh, and thanks Bren for chatting again.

    Messler

By Blogger Melissa, at 2/10/2005 9:34 AM

  • DC you're killin me haaaaaaaa DUCK HUNT

Someday I'll tell you guys the story of Bren's bro and dad taking me to their hunting club to shoot clay pigeons or whatever those red disks are...I'll wait til we're all together in Montreal 3 sheets to the wind to let that story out. Lets just say, I didnt disappoint and yet again made a complete arse of myself. good times. "You'll shoot your eye out!"

I do have the fireworks supply. When is worlds - July? There you go ladies, your own BHO light display.

    By Blogger swimphilly78, at 2/10/2005 9:34 AM

  • Haartelijk bedankt, Silawen. (psst Brendan, that was Dutch).

Fav parts of the chat, there are tons. I guess the whole thing about us spending more money on lingerie was fun. But my personal fav was when he mistook my Dutch to Silawen (I needed her to be awake, it was 6 AM in there!) for Spanish and forced me to drink. Me thinks Pumkin wants to get me drunk...

I had a great time y'all both in the actual chat with Brendan and in the time before. I hope you're all out there practicing the tips given in Flirting 101. Remember, no slouching... walk straight gals!

By Blogger Lena, at 2/10/2005 9:36 AM

  • I can always count on DC and Swimphilly for a good laugh. Sorry you missed the chat it was pretty funny. I am slapping myself for bringing up the Ian Thorpe undies! *ok shuts up now!*

Hope everyone has a great day...I have the flu so it is not a great out look for me.

By Blogger Kimberly, at 2/10/2005 9:39 AM

  • Well, Brendan, apparently you got your wanted location for Worlds.

I still cannot afford anything, so it's the same for me.

    ::sits in 3rd world country::

By Blogger Lena, at 2/10/2005 9:40 AM

  • Duck Hunt is the best game ever! Spent way too mcuh time playing nintendo and not enough time studying my last semester of school.

Lena, I tried walking tall yesterday as I was leaving work. I ended up falling down the stairs in front of a whole crowd of people.

By Blogger pixley, at 2/10/2005 9:41 AM

  • DC - You are the funniest girl ever! I'm in on the M80s and Dolphin plates.

swimphilly - I heard they are going to put up an invisible electric fence around the perimiter of the pool. Just warning you. I don't want you to get hurt.

Lena - i'm trying. I have frequent flyer miles with Northwest. I need to research though. I don't know if they are associated with any airlines that fly from Argentina, but if it's possible, my miles are yours.

And I think it's pretty official that WC will be in Montreal per the FINA WebsiteI'm going to see what I can do. I don't want to miss the Leo Posse partay!

By Blogger Stephie Mc, at 2/10/2005 9:45 AM

  • "I ended up falling down the stairs in front of a whole crowd of people."

Pix...that is so sad, are you ok? I would've done Molly Shannen's "super star" pose if it were me! LOL! Hope you are not hurt!

By Blogger Kimberly, at 2/10/2005 9:46 AM

  • Duck Hunt!..now that brings back some memories. I never played video games when i was little but i sure did play that one! good times.
so Worlds will be in Montreal now? hmmm *note so self start saving money*

the chat was fun last night once again. I really lucked out last night. My internet wasnt working until about 10:30pm...knowing my luck it was a miracle things worked out in my favor. Got on just in time for Bren to show up...it was meant to be!
fav moment?-Bren freaking out that Michelle found out about his sleigh bed..cant keep anything from us.

    oh and Diesel?..good stuff

By Blogger jenny, at 2/10/2005 9:48 AM

  • Thanks so much Kris for the recap. Bren, do you know how much you are throwing off my sleep scedule by showing up so late?
But yes, thanks for even showing up at all. I love you anywas, despite the lack of sleep.

FINA WC in Montreal now, eh? Crap man, now I have to decide whether I go to Indy or Canada. But YAY! to having the choice.

By Blogger Sarah, at 2/10/2005 9:56 AM

  • oh dear. Montreal. I can not wait. Montreal holds several fond memories of life during college. I had many excursions up there for college formals and girl get-away weekends etc.... it's a city that induces trouble! Beautiful, but troublesome. I also feel that I can speak French, as soon as I have had enough Labatt blue lights- can't speak French at all. Can you ladies deal with this?
Duck Hunt, HA! I was playing Buck Hunt at a bar on Sunday. Guns and drinking didn't work out. I am a bad Buck Hunter- I kept killing the cows.

By Blogger Heather, at 2/10/2005 9:58 AM

  • Dana Cara,if I make it to Montreal I will definitely be part of the attack on all dolphin kickers. They must be destroyed. Oooh...I got a little blood thirsty there. Still don't know how I'm going to fix my vacation predicament.

*Goes back to plotting and to eat leftover shells & cheese*

By Blogger blairbecky, at 2/10/2005 10:02 AM

  • I'm okay Kimberly, thanks for asking. I can't even say my pride was hurt cause I do stuff like this all the time. Seriously, my sorority sisters call me Grace for a reason. Remind me sometime to tell y'all about when I sprained my ankle getting out of bed!

By Blogger pixley, at 2/10/2005 10:03 AM

  • Aahh Lena, don't worry. I'll be by your side and we can yell at the place (and time difference, too.) together. Won't that be fun? We can even calculate what it would cost us to actually go, though I'm not sure what would be more expensive. I'm still trying to weasel my way into Pieter's favour so he can smuggle me along with him, but I see no difference so far.

Brendan.. you mistook Dutch for Spanish? They have nothing in common. O_O

By Blogger Silawen, at 2/10/2005 10:04 AM

  • i knew he would show up after i left! if i wasn't so sleep deprived and didn't have to write a lab report i could have hung in there. next week... i'll get him next week!

thanks for the great recap though!

By Blogger Miss O, at 2/10/2005 10:04 AM

  • Lena, I have an odd talent of finding ridiculously cheap airfares. I will work a miracle for you! Maybe it would be cheaper for you to fly into New York/JFK?

By Blogger Heather, at 2/10/2005 10:07 AM

  • there's a story behind the m-80's and dolphin plates...summary, my friend received a "haiku" poem from ehr ex boy(do not ask) the following day I get an email from my ex boyfriend, he brought me fireworks from teh superbowl - but he clearly states, "M-80's are illegal so I got something else." does anyone else have an ex who buys them explosives or writes haiku's? didnt think so...

anyhoo - dana will have to explain the dolphin plates but yes, they would make good skeet shooting , we can paste Cheato's head on each one.

Bren's sleigh bed came up??? ha ha thats classic

    By Blogger swimphilly78, at 2/10/2005 10:25 AM

  • One small bone to pick with the non-Texan recapper: Texans do NOT line dance, we two-step! Line dancing is for people from Ohio and Indiana. :)

    By Blogger Texas-Gal, at 2/10/2005 10:35 AM

  • afadingvoice...you were vague about the plans in Alanta in June...what is that all about?

I'm not afadingvoice, but I was there - no one knows what the plans are, he wouldn't give any other details besides that.

Also, can I just say that I'm so releaved about Hank the Duck. Because I really was wondering what happened to him.

    By Blogger a, at 2/10/2005 10:55 AM

  • Hmmmmm....do I know a certain lady who lives near Atlanta with a knack for shopping? Weekend trip anyone?? ;)

Pssst...Terrie,check your email. I left a present for you. Janine,I would have left you the present too but I didn't know your email. :)

By Blogger blairbecky, at 2/10/2005 11:51 AM

  • I just knew it!!!!! Of course Brendan would show up after I left the chat! Looks like you had a good time. Thanks for the recap, afadingvoice, so I know what i missed.... If I hadn't had such a terrible headache I would definitely stayed up longer. Oh well, maybe I'm more lucky next time. And yes, Silawen, we are just going to have to tackle the time difference together. But I actually got a couple of hours of sleep after I left the chat last night (morning), and curious enough, I dreamt about Brendan...

By Blogger tinkerbell, at 2/10/2005 11:55 AM

  • "does anyone else have an ex who buys them explosives or writes haiku's? didnt think so..."

Ha Ha Ha, no I would like to buy some ex's explosives, but not for entertainment value!

Texas-Gal: Was that a snarky remark about Indiana I saw? You know, just because we like corn and wear carhart gear doesn't make us line-dancing hicks. OK it does but shhhhhhhh! We don't want to scare the people who are going to trials!

By Blogger Kimberly, at 2/10/2005 12:13 PM

  • Chat was fun last night even though I didn't get to chat w/ pumpkin, =). I'm bummed that I missed it but I couldn't stay awake any longer...*dang job*, heheh. I will just have to take a nap before hand so I could stay awake just a tad longer next time, :P.

Thanks Michelle for asking him about what he gave up for Lent. I gave soda up as well and it's killing me, ;).

    --Maria

By Blogger Maria, at 2/10/2005 12:30 PM

  • Maria..i gave up soda too. i havent gone through withdrawls yet but its in the mail..haha

By Blogger jenny, at 2/10/2005 12:58 PM

  • Thanks for the recap Kris, I missed the last part of the chat. Too bad I missed the swimsuit/underwear discussion! That sounded fun. =)

By Blogger Janine, at 2/10/2005 2:23 PM

  • By insistance of Lena and co I decided to post this. It shows that being a fan of Brendan does has its advantages. ;)

Yesterday I was at the chat, you all know this, and I finally ended up in bed at 7.20. My job interview was scheduled at 9.00, so I got up at 8.30. That leaves about an hour of sleep, so you can imagine that I wasn't well-rested.

As I came at the room where I would be interviewed for the job I saw a woman in her thirties, smiling friendly. During the interview I couldn't help but yawn a lot and her first question was what I'd been doing the night before. So I explained what had happened (all your fault, Brendan...) and it turned out she had been in a comparable situation when she was younger. She had stayed up very late too, for an American tennis player - she hasn't told me who yet, unfortunately -, and we talked more about this than we did about the actual job. Turns out she was very interested in this 'Brendan Hansen' and even requested she could have the url to this site.

All in all; I got the job and started out with a lovely boss who understands the need to sometimes stay up very very late. ;)
It was a lovely thing to come across, particularly because I was very afraid I'd ruin the job interview. *laughs*
So now I'm not sure whether to thank Brendan or not. But I'll do so anyway; thank you for resulting in me finding a very nice job!

By Blogger Silawen, at 2/10/2005 2:36 PM

  • "does anyone else have an ex who buys them explosives or writes haiku's? didnt think so..."

no, but mine kinda stalked me...does that count?

great re-cap afadingvoice! you must have stayed up all night...morning? working on that! =D

diesel is the best, ok, maybe not the best, but it's pretty darn good. i have the diesel feminine right now, and i love it! and i'm so happy to hear that hank the duck was safe and sound in the pond, hope that hank jr. doesn't get tossed into the pond...

    =D erin. <---just for you eville!! =D

By Blogger erin, at 2/10/2005 2:41 PM

  • congrats silawen!!!!

By Blogger pixley, at 2/10/2005 2:41 PM

  • Sila... lol. That's totally awesome. Brendan got you a job... not that I don't have total faith that you wouldn't have been able to get it on your own if you had been well rested... but yeah. That's great! :)

By Blogger Insane Reason, at 2/10/2005 2:44 PM

  • Silawen, congrats on getting the job. I'm sure you would have been able to get it anyways, but it's great that your boss can understand the lengths you go to for Brendan. hehe.

By Blogger afadingvoice, at 2/10/2005 2:48 PM

  • Congrats Silawen! I had total faith in you, I knew you could make it!

By Blogger tinkerbell, at 2/10/2005 3:35 PM

  • Gefeliciteerd, Silawen. That is just a great story and it should be posted!
Congrats on the job and now go get some sleep!

By Blogger Lena, at 2/10/2005 3:39 PM

  • Hee, congrats on the job Silawen! I'd love to have a boss like that.

By Blogger Janine, at 2/10/2005 3:46 PM

  • Kimberly- I kid because I love! I feel I earned the right to dig on Indiana just a little bit, because I lived there for 2 years. And may I say that I saw way more rednecks while I was in Indiana than I ever saw in Texas... :)

    By Blogger Texas-Gal, at 2/10/2005 5:01 PM

  • ya see, bren makes all aspects of our life better..haha

    congrats Sila..

By Blogger jenny, at 2/10/2005 5:11 PM

  • Sila, well done on the job chick! How amusing that Bren helped you get the job (without even knowing)
Am in training for the next chat (staying awake for 24 hours)

    Poppy
    *-*

By Blogger Poppy, at 2/10/2005 5:14 PM

  • Kris you are such a trooper for doing that recap way into the wee hours of the morning. And again, it was great!

And thanks to Bren who still found time to come by and see what us crazy kids are up to-how could you resist that heavenly bed Bren?

By Blogger LongHornLove, at 2/10/2005 5:26 PM

  • Great recap, Kris! Of course Bren shows up as soon as I go to bed.

Congrats, Sila, on the new job!

Got the email, Blair. : )

By Blogger Ms of Arc, at 2/10/2005 6:08 PM

  • Hi - this is my first post! I'm sad I missed the chat last night, but I had to be up super early for work. (I'm a trader in NYC and have to be at work before 7... which is early for a non-swimmer!) But I really wanted to congratulate Silawen on the new job -- great story!

By Blogger Marin, at 2/10/2005 9:57 PM

  • Hey ya'll, I'm a blogger and BHO virgin, but I happened to stumble upon this sight, and I love it. It's so well done and I think it's awesome that ya'll are able to talk to Brendan. (Yay for him for coming to WI. I'll have to watch for him next time.) And congradulations to Silawen! That's awesome...show wonderful ways Brendan can help, but I'm sure they hired you because of your talent. :-) And now I'm all nostalgic with this talk of Duck Hunt. Did anyone have the track game with the pad that you run on? That's the best!

By Blogger flashingpirate, at 2/10/2005 10:26 PM

  • Welcome to the blog flashingpirate. Hope you post often.

By Blogger Michelle, at 2/11/2005 10:09 AM

  • Duck Hunt ruled- I still have my original NES and the gun. But I liked Hogan's Alley just as much (if not more)... that was a killer game.
