Wednesday Night Chat Recap
Compliments of the lovely Stephie Mc
- Pumkin arrived and there was a loud roar from the crowd.
- He informed the crowd he received a "Little Black Book" recently, but has not used it yet. He will though, don't you worry your pretty little heads about that!
- Three words to describe our pumkin according to him? Adventurous, funny, and street-smart. A trifecta of perfection!. (I say HOT should be in there too, but that's just me!)
- Besides his family, Brendan says he will still be in contact with his coaches from UT , twenty years from now because they've been there for him in so many ways.
- Pumkin kindly reminded us he is on a pro swimmer's salary, while most of us are poor. Share the wealth pumkin!
- Not only is Brendan a world class swimmer, he can make a clover with his tongue and promised to work on getting us photographic evidence. (We have it in writing. Don't try and back out!)
- After getting out his reading glasses to answer a question posed by atrophy, Brendan has promised to approach Nike on behalf of the endowed woman of the swim world and ask why their swimsuits are not supportive enough. Brendan mentioned he was spending some extra time thinking of dear atrophy and her girls in their time of need.
- Don't cross Bren-Bear. If you do, you may end up like an unidentified teammate who decided to tease him about a girl he was dating. His swimsuit ended up with ben-gay in it.
- Outside of swimming, being away from home and not being close to his family has been his biggest obstacle. He loves Texas though, which helps make it easier.
- Before he dies, Brendan would love to visit all of the continents.
- If he could eat only one meal for the rest of his life, it would be chicken parm.
- If he could change one thing about himself, our Brendan would love to have long flowing hair like Johnny Damon! Just kidding, he wouldn't change anything about himself. (Let's be honest, why mess with perfection?)
- If you want to challenge Brendan to a dance off, better go back in time to 1990 for some "Bust A Move" by Young MC.
- Brendan has yet to meet Matthew McConaughey but will let us know if he runs into his fellow Austinite.
- If he could meet one celebrity, he'd choose Donald Trump so he could get financial wisdom from him and admire his flowing locks. (Just kidding on the last part!)
- Pumkin chose swimming over other sports he could persue because it was the funnest and he kept getting better at it.
- Breaststroke is still the funnest stroke, according to Brendan (We're not surprised!)
- Brendan finds comfort in his many pictures, which he keeps in albums and shadow boxes. He does not scrapbook though, because he is "too cool". (Boys!!)
- The best gift Brendan ever got was a bike when he was 7 years old. It gave him his first taste of independence as he traveled to 7-11 and visited the candy aisle.
- JHD did her homework and found out Austin was named the #7 college party town. Brendan enlightened us that the school isn't a party school, but the city of Austin is fiesta central so let's all pack our bags and pay him a visit for spring break!
- Aaron is Brendan's favorite roommate to date.
- He pushes himself to the breaking point in every race.
- Brendan has obviously taken a queue from his mom and claims to have nothing under his bed, not even a dust bunny!
- Pumkin is proud of his entire music collection.
- If Brendan could live in any time, he'd live during the Old West and surely get some use out of his previously mentioned cowboy boots.

Thanks for the great recap, Stephie.
"He pushes himself to the breaking point in every race."I just love this phrase :)
Speaking of Nike swimwear, I tried a suit last year (a dark grey+yellow model), and it was actually seethrough ... in all the strategic places hehe
Dunno, maybe that's a plus lol ;)

I forget yesterday was wednesday :( Seem like chat last night was fun for all of you who were participated in the chat.
I am looking forward to see a picture of him makes a clover with his tongue.
He does wear a reading glasses??? Never know about that before.
I have a classmate in my swim class who wears a Nike swimwear and it is loose on her, so makes a lot of drag in water.
Chicken parm. rule!
Can anyone expalin to me what exact is the "little black book" is?
By
Maxine, at 2/24/2005 3:45 AM
Clover? Tongue?!? Uh.....I'm sorry. I forgot what I was gonna say.
By
Dana, at 2/24/2005 5:14 AM
I had a great time at caht and thanks so much to Brendan for taking time to answer our questions.
And like the boss and I said during chat: we NEED a pic of him wearing glasses!
Pretty please?
By
Lena, at 2/24/2005 6:48 AM
That was a great recap, Stephie mC Sorry I missed the chat this week. I have been so busy with school stuff.
So what is this "little black book" that Im hearing about? Please tell.
It looks like there were a lot of great questions and Im looking forward to the picture of Bren in his glasses. Come on Bren don't let us down ....get that camera out. And how about a pic of you and your Favorite roomie together while you are at it.
By
Kate, at 2/24/2005 7:33 AM
My favorite part of the chat was Deena's question. Thanks for representing the "big" girls and our problems with Nike swimsuits. Too funny!
As usual,I had to leave early but it was quite enjoyable. Thanks Bren and Michelle. :)
By
blairbecky, at 2/24/2005 7:47 AM
Oops,so busy giggling to myself I forgot to tell Stephie great recap. Yes,HOT should have been an answer too. :p
By
blairbecky, at 2/24/2005 7:49 AM
Awesome recap Steph! I'm stil patting myself on the back for being able to stay awake through the whole chat this week (yes this is an accomplishment for me, Wednesdays are sooo long). Deena- you are my hero for asking that question! Thanks Michelle and Bren (and everyone for the entertaining questions).
By
pixley, at 2/24/2005 7:56 AM
Oh! One more thought on last nights chat, about Austin being a great party town. I may have shared this with some of you before but its very disturbing for me, so I will share again.
I swim on a masters team with mostly older married men, whose goal is to marry me off or at least get me a decent date. One who happens to be a pilot informed me that there was no hope for me here in Louisville. We are listed as the one of the worst places to date. (Bottom five cities) And where was #1 you ask? AUSTIN, TEXAS.
Im now running off to pack my bags...anyone else wanna come?
By
Kate, at 2/24/2005 8:05 AM
Glad to see everyone had a good time. I'm sorry I missed it, but a girl's gotta do her laundry sometime. BTW, if Bren needs some help filling up the black book, I'm sure we could help him out, right?
By
Melissa, at 2/24/2005 8:08 AM
Wow...it sounds like everyone had fun last night, wish I had been there but I had made plans - I know, on a Wedsnesday night!
That black book sounds interesting, I am quite willing to help him get started!
By
Poppy, at 2/24/2005 8:30 AM
Yes, HOT should have been an answer too. :p
Yeah, that was my contribution the moment he listed quality number 3.
I swim on a masters team with mostly older married men, whose goal is to marry me off or at least get me a decent date
Kate, you're lucky. I do archery with a bunch of boys whose goal in life is to prevent me to have a decent date or romantic life. They keep bashing every single guy I date. So maybe we can trade... or I can just send them to you. They're nice boys in their 20s. Not completely hot, but not terribly to look at. I have 6. Swimphilly and someone else already showed interest... any other takers?
Or we can go to Austin, that sounds good to me too ;)
By
Lena, at 2/24/2005 8:33 AM
Great recap Steph!
and like blairbecky said, "girls" everywhere thank you atrophy!
And I'm always up for a good party. I wouldn't mind visiting Austin. Although Bren, you gotta work on meeting Matthew McConaughey, how else are you going to hook me up with him????
By
JHD, at 2/24/2005 8:54 AM
JHD, have you given up Aaron? Is the fight over?
Wow...
And Tigger, awesome recap!!!
By
Lena, at 2/24/2005 8:59 AM
Oh, and this?
Aaron is Brendan's favorite roommate to date.
I'm gonna assume you meant something different from what I'm thinking. ;)
Lena, I haven't given up on Aaron, but Matt is more my age, and I've crushed on Matt way longer than on AarBear.
By
JHD, at 2/24/2005 9:02 AM
Ha! I didn't even realize I said that. I meant, Aaron is Brendan's favorite roommate, thus far. Don't tease the Tiggers..you're liable to be PoUnCeD! ;)
By
Stephie Mc, at 2/24/2005 9:12 AM
Tigger is ok!
For one, I did not pick up on that one... a total synthom that I need to sleep more.
By
Lena, at 2/24/2005 9:17 AM
Well, I've met Matthew McConaughey... three times. Once in college at a frat party (he was an alum), once at a football game (he has season tickets), once randomly at the Four Seasons bar on a Friday. I've met so many famous people at the Four Seasons... you're guaranteed to run across 'em on Fridays.
HOWEVER... I have yet to meet Brendan, or Ian or Aaron for that matter. Can I trade one of my Matt meetings for a Trio meeting?!?
Also- Austin consistently tops the list of cities for single people- that is true. (http://www.forbes.com/2004/06/23/04singleland.html) I credit that to three things: the music scene, the Texas accents and the cowboy boots.
By
Texas-Gal, at 2/24/2005 9:18 AM
Lena...they would have to be late 20's....Im an old woman at 26.. Just kidding.
Im more of a "gotta have a sense of humor" kinda gal more than looks, bc they fade. I want someone who will make me laugh. :)
Brendan's funny right? Now don't get me wrong it doesn't hurt to have a sense of humor and be HOT.
I think that I ever got serious with someone they would do the same thing LENA, its a no win situation.
By
Kate, at 2/24/2005 9:27 AM
great questions last night gals. definately the most creative night so far.
I definately support the idea of Bren sending over a pic of him making a clover with his tongue and glasses...maybe even both at the same time!
Yes, yes i agree with TExas-Gal that Austin is the place to be for a good time or if you are single.
who can resist a guy or gal with a sexy southern accent??!!
(or philly or portland natives who rock the cowboy boots!!)
By
jenny, at 2/24/2005 9:30 AM
kate kate kate...I'm 26 too. we are not old! yet...
And I agree, sense of humor before all else. I tend to go for the goofballs/smarta$$ - Will Smith type of personality.
AND yes, Brendan is very funny.
AND Philly would give L-ville a run for its money in the "worst city to date" category. I think Boise, Idaho might rank higher than Philly.
Its so bad.
I was setup with a very cute guy, 28, successful, funny - I was so excited...
I find out he's married, but "separated" (yeah right)with 2 kids. His "wife" called twice during dinner alone! michelle/DC I know you are laughing right now... hellooooooooo AUSTIN
thanks for the recap steph!

Hey, guys, remember when I talked about big boobs? ;)
Great recap, Steph. And I'm with Lena and Michelle - we need a picture of him in glasses.
By
a, at 2/24/2005 10:16 AM
Thanks for the recap Steph. It hit all the major high points and was just lovely.
And i agree with everyone. I need photographic evidence of both the glasses and the clover. Stat!
By
afadingvoice, at 2/24/2005 10:30 AM
swimphilly, chica, if not Austin, come to Buenos Aires with me.
You've seen who I had plans with on Wednesdays before the chat. And there's plenty more of that type.
;)
By
Lena, at 2/24/2005 10:30 AM
You chatterboxes, it seems like you all have fun in there! :) I've seen the clover tongue trick, Jeff can do it. Men with glasses = stellar. I adore that.
Miss L - your 28 yo - oh.my.gosh.
My worst date ever: Morgan – I was a sophomore in high school, he was a senior. I was a lifeguard at the country club, he was a caddy. He brought me a rose. He was handsome in that short wrestler kind of a way. He had a red Honda hatchback. And everything about him screamed "brother, brother, brother" to me. Why did I go on this date? I have no clue. He took me to the movies, and driving home, I had the revolting realization that he was going to try to kiss me. So as he braked toward a stop in front of my house, I threw the passenger side door open and jumped out. The car was probably still going 10 or 15 mph – I basically stopped, dropped and rolled into our lawn. My mom had seen the car coming down the road, and she already had the front door of the house wide open so I could complete my escape. That was enough. I was done with dating for a few months afterwards.
And finally, Heather and I have sculpted a plan for the fabulous single girl lives we could lead in Austin. We're thinking that with the cost of living difference, we'd live like queens, so we'll pick up a house - get tan - wear our Lilly Pulitzer sundresses and our colorful sandals - buy an awesome grill, do a lot of barbeque - plant a garden, host garden parties for the ladies, lots of chardonnay - read the thousands of books we've always wanted to read and haven't gotten to yet - masters' classes at UT Austin - at night, change into black leather pants and be blonde magnets at the Four Seasons bar - make friends with that houseful of swimming guys down the street, use their soon-to-be hot tub ... Who's joining us? We figure the house is at least 4 bedrooms or so. :)
By
Dana Cara, at 2/24/2005 10:42 AM
yep...he is pretty Lena.
I lived in Arg. for a summer. I've seen the goods. Bless that country. Too many good looking people there though, I had to leave I felt like a troll.
By
swimphilly78, at 2/24/2005 10:45 AM
I have posted more in the past 2 days than in weeks. I think I am going crazy though with winter doldrums, although some would say I already was a whacko, and I agree. :)
but DC that was hilarious!
someone should ask Brendan what his most awful date was...
final thought then i'm done -
speaking of this Nike swimwear Brendan - for the well endowed girls - do they have ones with miracle bras in it? or water bras? just askin...um, for a friend...yeah, thats it, a friend...
By
swimphilly78, at 2/24/2005 10:55 AM
The chat last night was fun. Glad that my wine induced brain stopped by. It seems like there is always something, cold medicine, wine, while I am in the chat. hmmm...I need to think about that issue.
Let's go to Austin. Dana, is forgetting a key part. I will supply the books, if she pays for the rest of the cost of living! I'll be glad to organize the garden parties. This is really a lovely idea in comparison to my day today. At least someone is taking me out to lunch.
By
Heather, at 2/24/2005 11:00 AM
My uncle used to live in Austin but now he's moving back to Trinidad (idiot! And just when I was starting to get interested in UT). Anyway, he's going back to Austin so that he can pack up the house. This was me begging last night
"Hey do you need help to pack?" (trying to sound nonchalant)
"Nah. I think I have it covered."
"Are you sure. I mean, I could watch the boys while you pack."
"The boys are 14 and 15 Dana. They don't need watching anymore."
"Oh. Ok.......so you're sure you don't need help?"
It's like come on uncle, take a hint. I wanna come too.
By
Dana, at 2/24/2005 11:13 AM
these chats always seem like so much fun. i wish i could join them sometime but i always have dance class wed nights. :(

Great recap Tigger! You totally hit on all the good stuff: Deena's boobs, the Clover tongue, the glasses. Thank's for answering all the question's Bren. We made you think a lot last night.
Lena, love. You're sending an archer boy or two my way, right? Because you have enough hot on your hands with that cutie that was interrupting your chatting last night.
By
Sarah, at 2/24/2005 11:29 AM

My dearest swimphilly - I told you to ask Brendan to ask Nike about this in private. You ratted me out!! lol (Just Kidding, but I wouldn't mind getting an answer on that one) ;)
By
Stephie Mc, at 2/24/2005 11:31 AM
Big-boobed gals, he said he'd talk to Nike about our plight.
Hee. I made him think of my boobs. (wins)
By
a, at 2/24/2005 11:47 AM
Love the recap...
I didn't remember yesterday was Wednesday until I was watching "The Fox and the Hound" and thinking 'Hunters are just plain ev--but Brendan doesn't count, I'd have to see him do it, & I doubt I'd care about it that much then'
And I was at home too:(
Reading glasses are sexy. Glasses in general are sexy. If we get a picture of him in them, can I make a request to have Aaron in his glasses as well?
By
Jaclyn, at 2/24/2005 12:02 PM
Lena, love. You're sending an archer boy or two my way, right? Because you have enough hot on your hands with that cutie that was interrupting your chatting last night.
Pooh... lol. Ok, I'll tell you waht, if Team Captain (the one that looks like the Crockah) breaks up with the gf, he'll be on the next plane destination you. Ok?
And you're making me blush...
By
Lena, at 2/24/2005 12:14 PM
Great recap, Stephie. :) Brendan wears reading glasses? Interesting, I wonder what he looks like wearing glasses... *lurks* LOL :D
By
sportsgal86, at 2/24/2005 2:25 PM
Great recap, Stephie! I had fun chatting with you all last night. Now I'm trying to recover from my lack of sleep. Luckily it's Friday tomorrow...
Yes, Bren, you should definitely provide us with a pic of the tongue thing! And we would love to see a pic of you in your glasses!
I don't think he expected such deep questions from us last night, but he did a great job answering them. My favourite part, except from asking him my question, was Deena's question about the swimsuits. That made me laugh so hard I was crying. Priceless!
I don't remember seing any other fellow Europeans in there last night - where were you? You weren't all doing your laundry, were you?
By
tinkerbell, at 2/24/2005 2:49 PM
Bad dates are the worst. Luckily I don't have any that have ended in a "drop and roll" out of a car...but thanks for the great laugh DC.
Yes we will have to ask Brendan about his worst date ever..and best.
One of my best dates ever was to a Science Museum...I know Im a dork. But it was so much fun. Just running around acting like kids looking at all the exibits.
By
Kate, at 2/24/2005 2:53 PM
Thanks for the recap Steph! Wednesday nights are my favorite night of the week. (Thanks Bren and Michelle!) I think we need some video proof that Bren can do the clover thing, not just a pic!
Guys in glasses are hot. That is all. ;)
By
Janine, at 2/24/2005 2:53 PM
ooh reading glasses.
it think it would be really cute from Bren to send a picture of him with them on. ;-)
oh... i saw this on AaronPeirsolOnline.com:
the trio will be swimming next weekend -- here's the pdf file of all the UT swimmers, go down and check out Brendan, Ian and Aaron. :-)

"One of my best dates ever was to a Science Museum...I know Im a dork. But it was so much fun. Just running around acting like kids looking at all the exibits."
Kate I've also gone to a Science Museum on a date, it was the best date. Some pre school class was there so we had a lot of fun playing with the little kids.
And yes Great job Stephie, you did your adopted sister proud;)

Dates in museums are cool, yo.
By

Thanks for the summary Steph!! :) That sounded like such a fun chat, I'm going to try and make it next Wednesday.
Glasses are so cute on a hot guy :D
By
_cesca_, at 2/24/2005 7:16 PM
Really nice recap Stephie. I think Bren was kidding about reading glasses.. I thought he wore glasses for distance. But I know he wears them. (supersekretsourse) I can't believe how Deena's boobs keep popping out at chat! "Live and in person! atrophy28 and her Magical Conversational Boobs!" I will stop now. (tee hee) My question was never answered, but it wasn't really my question anyway , I was asking it for someone else, and it was sort of rhetorical so I didn't expect an answer. I mean do we really think he would say "Yes. All my fans may stay at my house for the short course, my heaven of a bed is large and my house has many rooms, I have prepared a place for you ..." Ummm.... nope. Thanks ladies for bringing all the fun questions and thanks to the toiger for answering them all so honestly and with such a sense of humor. Adventurous, Funny, Street-smart, and SmokingHot. Brendan Hansen brings it.

Chat was fun last night, it's such a blast chatting w/ everyone here, =).
Everyone asked really good questions last night, so good in fact that Brendan had to "think for a bit" on some of them, lol.

Swimphilly...glad to see you survived your first real brendan chat! I was worried about you!
D.C. and Heather...you two are the best! Count me in on the dream life. Since I will be a buyer for Jimmy Choo, Bloomingdales, or a Ralph Lauren store...I will make sure you are well dressed always! Heather can hook me up with the Nicholas Sparks books. Texas watch out for the BHO girls!

"Don't cross Bren-Bear. If you do, you may end up like an unidentified teammate who decided to tease him about a girl he was dating."
Why is it so hard to find a guy like this?
Sorry, kind of bitter--the only guy I ever dated made me pay for things...and open doors.
Someone please tell me Brendan pays and opens doors... pulls out chairs...brings flowers...remembers birthdays...actually talks to the girl he's on the date with...
By
Jaclyn, at 2/25/2005 2:53 AM
Jaclyn If you don't make it to the next chat, I promise to ask that question on your behalf.

Did y'all see where Dave is selling bracelets over on his site? He says he would prefer everyone to wear them on their ankle. This is to show how lucky we are to have the use of our legs. I had to order a couple because I want to support his recovery. Just thought y'all might want to order some too. :)
By
blairbecky, at 2/25/2005 9:17 AM
Blair - Crackinup just emailed me about those this morning and I'd read his journal entry about them last night. Great idea and I hope he sells a ton.
Those who haven't been reading Dave's journal - you really should. It's great stuff.
By
Michelle, at 2/25/2005 9:36 AM
Yep, I need to buy an ankle thing too. And seriously all, what Michelle said. Check out Dave's site. It's both hilarious and inspiring.
