Prediction Contest
Bumping this thread to the top - last day for you to get in on this $2 gift certificate. Can't win if you don't play.
Now that the Official Psych Sheet for Trials has been released I thought it would be a fun challenge and make trials even more interesting if we had a little prediction contest. So this is how you play...For each event listed on the Psych Sheet (28 in all) list your top 3 finishers in order of finish. At the end we'll do the math:
10 points - for each correct position,
6 points - if that person is in the top 3 but in a different order
3 points - if that person isn't in the top 3 but still in the top 6
The person with the most points at the end will be crowned "Most Excellent Swimming Fan Evah" and have bragging rights. Ok, I might throw in a $2 gift certificate for Krispy Kreme just to make things more interesting ;). All predictions must be posted by the start of Prelims on April 1st.
GAME ON!

You are right. Your predictions suck. You got six of the 1st place positions right and none of the 2nd place positions and nine of the 3rd place postions... And one of these people are placed in the race for the opposite sex. ::shakes head:::
By
Eville Admin, at 3/25/2005 4:00 AM
Hey, Meesh! I think your second Men's 100m Free is supposed to be the Men's 1500m Free... because how do you have Larsen Jensen winning a 100 meter event with Phelps in it? ;)
I will have to put up my guesses later. This is going to take a little more thought than I can devote at this hour of the morning.
By
AimsRos, at 3/25/2005 4:48 AM
Michelle-
i think this is a fantastic idea...especially the krispy kreme prize.
alas, there is no way i could follow all this - i have 4 ncaa tourney pools going, as of right now, i'm winning all of them(so help me if UNC chokes...) much $ involved, if i win, i will send everyone cheesesteaks!
hope you enjoy your Philly Easter Swim-Bunny treats...
Good luck to Bren and the boys-
Happy Easter All!

Well, looking at my basketball bracket and how it's turned out horribly wrong yet another year in a row, why am I even bothering entering this? Ho hum. I suppose I shall give it a try.

By
Carla, at 3/25/2005 11:13 AM
atrophy I was just thinking the same thing. My UL cards won last night :) and tonight the CATS are playing. Im so excited! I will also have swimming to watch when I go home thanks to ESPN 2 having the brains to televise some swimming action.
And then moving into next week with the final four and TRIALS in INDY ! It really is March Madness. (and by madness i man the times that some of these guys are putting up!) I still can't get over Fred from Auburn's sub :19 swims yesterday in the 50, and Ryan's record breaking 200 IM swim.
By
Kate, at 3/25/2005 11:20 AM
o wow, that's hard. i'm gonna watch the ncaas today and look at the mens and try to kinda figure this out. they are all so close, except for those amazing swimmers who never seem to lose.

In Worlds You Will See No.1 Hansen No.2 Usher No.3 Marshall! They Will Defeate The Kitajima Which Will Be Forth! Or Fivth! I Hope,he Will Be Forth And Chinese Will Be Fivth! My Baby Crys I Cannot Wright More To-night But I Will Wright For The Results. Hansen Gold, Usher Silver, Peirsol Gold, Beard Gold, Kitajima Last, The Cheaters Will Be Last, You Will See. Michelle, at 3/25/2005 12:47 PM

Well, there is no science to my picks. I went with people I really like and wild cards. So if I get alot right I'm either a genius (really,I am) or I'm extremely lucky. Now if we are going by the results of the Bball brackets I'm not very lucky at all.

All of you who aren't picking Lezak to win the 100 free, what are you *trying* to lose? My predictions:
1. I will never get around to filling this out, because I am lazy, but I will feel free to comment on everyone else's picks. ;-)
2. Michelle's head will explode when she goes to figure out the scoring results. She will resort to the eenie-meenie-miney-mo method of choosing a winner.
3. Ok fine, Brendan will win both breaststroke distances. Phelps will qualify in a bunch of events. Lochte will scratch the 1500. The men's 200 back and 100 free will be the most exciting events. Kaitlin will come from behind in the 200 fly to win on the last lap. And Natalie will win every event she swims.

I can't believe Kerry just ignored Peirsol in her predictions. Guess who is DEFINITELY not going to be borrowing him anytime soon?
By

Michelle can't even add up her archery scores accurately without a calculator but is clever enough to recruit unsuspecting innocents to do the prediction contest math. :p

Finally blogger lets me post! OK, i'll predict later, as I just got back from Archery Finals, day 1 and _I have an ice pad on my shoulder, that decided to collapse when I still had 36 arrows to shoot. Did that stopped me? Heck no! I shot under pain (tons of it) and I managed to finish the first part of the tourney... I scored 96 points more than my last score on this distance!!! The Boss can tell ya, that is a lot! Sorry, I'm so happy that I've improved so much. now all I need os for my shoulder to resist 72 arrows at 20m tomorrow cause I'm planning to also making it and improve.
And Michelle, don't worry, I'll add the things for you. I'm the scorer of all tourneys, so...
OK people I need more ice in my shoulder. I just wanted to share this with you and thank you for all the support you showed to me during this week of intense training.
Pics are on its way ;)

Ok I will try to make it back with my predictions, between Trials, The bball tourney, and the Men's NCAA Swimming & Diving Champs, I've had an exciting week! (yes, i'm a huge sports dork!) As I promised, Michelle I will be happy to help with the math!
And for those of you that know me, know that I already have Ryan doing well in his events for Trials (if the NCAA's are any sign he'll be on fire)

You all are wusses. Not one of you have posted the winning times. And I was just looking over this psych sheet. Did Klete Keller forget he is fast at the 400m free? I didn't. Who is gunna give Hackett the run for his money at worlds? Is this sheet wrong or is he not swimming that distance? Oh, I forgot I already know the answer to that question.

100 FLY W: Komisarz, Vollmer, Kirk
Komisarz' biceps, good heavens ... and Kirk usually pulls it off
400 FR M: Jensen, Vanderkaay, Mortimer
Though I think in two years, Klueh and Crippen will be right up there
200 IM W: Beard, Hoff, Sandeno
Sandeno's seed is lower, but she knows how to win, and she'll feel
a strong competitive urge to chase Katie Hoff
100 BR M: Hansen, Gangloff, Marshall
I think Moses fourth (still getting used to Salo), Usher fifth
(confidence took a hit at NCAAs, though maybe he's plotting some
genius taper, I think he wanted NCAAs worse than he wants this)
400 FR W: Sandeno, Keller, Ziegler
Take a picture of the final - you can use it in Beijing as a reference.
Those three plus Piper, Hayley Peirsol, Alyssa Kiel - all coming up
400 IM M: Phelps, Lochte, Shanteau
I always feel like Eric swims a little scared, and I don't know why.
Mortimer is always the bridesmaid (4th) ... who is Pat Mellors? I know
nothing about this kid. These should be good heats, there's a lot of
up and coming young guys here: Alex Vanderkaay, Sean Smith, Tom
Southmayd, Agustin Magruder are all worth watching
100 BA W: Coughlin, McGregory, Hoelzer
WATCH LAUREN ENGLISH. She's Katie Hoffish :), totally dominating the
NJ High School swimming scene, only 15, and well-coached. Maggie
Hoelzer is a great competitor.
200 FR M: Phelps, Vanderkaay, Lochte
Klete Keller is still recentering, finding his way. Rooting for
Papa Goldblatt ;) to slip in there, and this will be a GREAT final,
with Dusing, Mortimer, and Jayme Cramer, a much-beloved Stanford guy
100 BA M: Peirsol, Marshall, Grevers
I like Grevers and Hunt over Bal. Grevers is coming off a stellar
NCAAs, plus he's just a massive human being (6'8", I think) and
he thrives as underdog
200 FR W: Coughlin, Sandeno, Vollmer
Kara Lynn Joice might sneak in
200 FLY M: Tarwater, Raab, Cruz
Third is WIDE open ... tempted to pick Madwed ... but I'm about
two years too early to pick Madwed. Doesn't Ben M swim this event?
100 BR W: Beard, Kirk, Jendrick
Caroline Bruce might turn it on here.
100 FLY M: Crocker, Phelps, Michaelson
This may be the first time Ben has ever taken the blocks feeling
absolutely confident in the caliber of his training. I think he'll
deliver accordingly.
50 FR W: Joyce, Correia, Weir
Pure guess
400 IM W: Sandeno, Hoff, Caverly
By seed time, this should be the easiest race of the meet to call
50 FR M: Lezak, Brunelli, Wochomurka
I am so pulling for Brunelli to have his breakout race. If he
doesn't, maybe he should leave AZ and switch up the training.
Wochomurka is going to be flying off the excitement of NCAAs.
Gabe Woodward, Neil Walker, always good fun to watch
100 FR M: Lezak, Phelps, Crocker
The story will be in the Lezak-Phelps time gap - my guess: .4
200 FLY W: Sandeno, Myers, Descenza
I should take an educated guess on which races Sandeno might skip.
She wouldn't skip this one, I don't think, but still ...
200 IM M: Phelps, Lochte, Shanteau
This is the race I feel surest that Lochte will swim
200 BA W: Hoelzer, Caverly, McGregory
Such a wide-open event for '08
800 FR W: Keller, Ziegler, Peirsol
But Zeigler will get most of the press coverage. :)
100 FR W: Coughlin, Joyce, Weir
I think you'll see a couple of PBs here from Corriera and Jamison
200 BA M: Peirsol, Phelps, Hunt
I think Lochte might skip it ... I think Sun might swim out of his mind
200 BR W: Beard, Kirk, Bruce
The Stanford girls will be neck and neck
200 BR M: Hansen, Usher, Gangloff
Gangloff is RESTED ...then again, so is Ed
1500 FR M: Jensen, Mortimer, Thompson
800 FR M: Jensen, Mortimer, Thompson
Mortimer should be really confident by the end. I'm pulling for Chris
Thompson, whose elbows probably still hurt even now. He's so deserving
of a trip to Montreal, I hope he grits his teeth and pulls it out
I think Christian Sprang will have a PB, he's geared up from junior
nationals and Hawaii and all that, he's ready to play in the majors. :)
1500 FR W: Keller, Zeigler, Carr

Oops. Double post. Blogger was playing tricks on me and I thought the first post wasn't posted.
Anyway, start crossing your fingers and enjoy the trials!

well, I seriously cannot predict... I'll pass.
Besides, I'm busy watching myself on TV! They interviewed me for the Archery Finals... so weird to see oneself on TV.
Good luck tomorrow Brendan, we'll be cheering for you.

Does anyone have a clue where my predictions went?!?
By
Ella de Aquella, at 4/01/2005 5:40 PM
Just realized I screwed up on my picks..I accidentally put the Ment's 200 Free as the 100 Free and I put Daniel Raab instead of Michael Raab..Sorry about that! :I
