100 Breaststroke Final
Brendan swam a 1.01.8 in the 100 final. Just before he got up on the blocks his cap ripped so he had to swim without. He thinks someone doesn't want him swimming fast until Montreal.
7 DAYS! WHEEEE!

Woo! Go Brendan! Montreal isn't going to know what hit it.
That's crazy about his cap ripping. I remember watching the swimmers tugging at their caps and I was wondering if the things ever ripped. I mean, they weren't exactly being gentle with the tugging.
Now, I must return to staking out my front window in hopes that the UPS man arrives soon with my copy of Half Blood Prince! I have to go shopping to get stuff for Montreal today, and I can't wait around all day!

Congratulations BRENDAN!
At least Brendan ripped his cap BEFORE the race, I had one rip in the middle of a mile. It was a complete disaster. I swear I get more stressed about losing my goggles and keeping my cap on before a race than I do about the actual race. ;o)

I'd like to make a wager *ahem*:
Come Montreal, methinks Brendan will have two caps at the blocks - 1 on his head, one *just in case*
I volunteer to be the person holding the extra cap for him :)

I think being the cap holder girl is a great idea! That or the person in charge of the towels...My mom & I both think another good job would be the person who helps the male gymnasts onto the uneven bars.
Anyway, just sitting here drinking Penta water. I'm getting my HP6 book tomorrow. Still haven't read Order of the Phoenix yet, which is really sad.

After waiting *all* day, my book finally came. I thought it was coming UPS, meanwhile, it was sitting in my mailbox the entire time I was waiting! Oops!
Anyway, I noticed the 100 fly was today--did anyone hear if Ian ended up swimming in it? I'm just curious about his time if he did swim it.

and i've NEVER had a cap rip on deck...but i've just jinxed myself now. :)

I really have to work on my typing.... I was trying to quote afadingvoice and I typo-ed it. So is Bren swimming today or is he getting ready to go to Team USA camp? Does anyone know if all the relay teams (beside the medley) have been chosen?

Shannen, I got my copy of the book at midnight on Friday and they even gave me a Ron doll cause I was one of the firsts. The doll looks like Ian, I swear.
Anyway, coming back to the real world. Way to go Brendan... and I don't know, the whole ripping cap thing. Sexy.

I don't know if ya'll have heard, but Fox College Sports is going to air some coverage from Worlds. So if you live in the US and get that channel, there's a chance you'll get to see some of it.
Their website is located here:
http://msn.foxsports.com/id/1991727
And Worlds is listed in their schedule.
Unfortunately, I don't get that station, but I thought I'd pass that along for those who do. It doesn't look like it's gonna air on regular Fox Sports Network, which most people get, I think.

After digging through my cable lineup, I found out we *do* get Fox College Sports, but it's extra. So for folks with Time Warner Digital Cable, you might check and see if you have a thing called Digital Sports Package-it looks like it has Fox College Sports, as well as College Sports Network. I thought it was odd that a town that is *so* into college sports (with Ohio State and all)wouldn't have those channels.
So, I might just call next week to add that package, then take it off when I get back from Montreal, and just TiVo swimming every night. That's not crazy, right? ;)

Thanks shannen!

Thanks again

lala--go to this website:
http://msn.foxsports.com/id/1991727
Off to the right side, it'll say "Programming" (near the animation of some fans waving giant foam fingers.) Since you're on the west coast, you'll need to click on the link called "FCS Pacific".
When you click on that, it'll take you to a programming grid. Ignore the "Search By Sport" pulldown menu, because swimming's not on it. Also ignore the pulldown menu that says "Show". Go to the pulldowns underneath that--the ones that say "Filter By Region" and "Date". Make sure the "Filter By Region" says Pacific, and pull down the date you want from the Date Menu. I started on the 24th, since that's the first day of swimming.
Then, scroll down the programming grid until you find it. It'll be called "FINA World Championships '05 Finals"
However, I don't think these are live--they are just two hours of highlights, so they might run a day behind (for example, swimming might not be shown until July 25th, and it'll be the swimming on the 24th.)
I'm assuming they're showing some swimming, anyway--like I said, it's just highlights, so you might get the other sports in there too.

Thanks Shannen.. the browser that I have been using didn't like that site.. So there was the thing that said programming was covered with graphics. I am a happy girl now.

Sorry Skye...I haven't watched gymnastics in awhile. At least you knew what I meant. Now that I think about the more dorky I feel. Oh, well. I'd rather watch swimming, anyway.
Is there any possible way we can see the Ron doll in photograph form? Sounds interesting. I saw a guy that looked like Ian at Barnes & Noble while getting HP6. He looked like he was about 8 feet tall, however.

YEA!!!!
Thanks for the info Shannon. Im pretty sure that I get that channel, but Im gonna double check tonight. Some coverage is better than none.

Thank you Shannen! I think my horrible week has just been redeemed.
Oh and I just finished HP6! Best one yet most definitely!

Thanks for the info Shannen. I'm gonna check out how I can get that channel... I would loove to have it all the time cause it looks like they rerun football and basketball games in the area as well. Can't believe it's almost here. It seems like y'all were planning the Montreal trip months ago.

lala was asking the other day about the relays--this article was in the OC Register and discusses that:
For the past few months, Dave Salo has been unflappable when discussing his seemingly high-pressure assignment as the U.S. men's swim coach for the FINA World Championships.
Before departing for Montreal, he remained in form, even on the subject of the heavily scrutinized and often controversial relays.
"I don't have any concerns (about the relays)," the Irvine Novaquatics coach said Thursday at the Janet Evans Invitational at USC. "I think the athletes know it's going to be who the four best guys are."
Salo might not be worried, but there are some intriguing picks to be made when the swimming starts Sunday.
For instance, is eight-time 2004 Olympic medalist Michael Phelps a slam dunk to race in the finals of all three relays? Phelps, 20, appears to be a lock for the 400- and 800-meter freestyle relay finals, but Salo made a finals appearance in the 400 medley relay sound uncertain.
"Whenever we put the relays together, all the information that goes into it (is considered)," Salo said. "It's not just the best time. It's their best relay exchanges and their best relay times. (And) what they've been doing historically."
What if it comes down to Ian Crocker and Phelps for the butterfly spot in the finals of the medley relay?
"They're very evenly matched in the 100 flat-start fly," Salo said. "If they're very evenly matched, you go to their relay exchanges. Ian has a lot more experience. That goes without saying. Ian has been doing four years of collegiate swimming (at Texas)."
Salo does have time on his side. The medley relay, an event in which the United States could break its world record from Athens, is on the last day, July31.
"You've got through the week to see who is really on their game," Salo added.
The 400 free relay is the first night, and Salo is open to using eight swimmers, four for prelims and four for finals.
I'm breathing a *huge* sigh of relief at the discussion of the medley relay. Even if Michael wins the 100 fly (which he's *not*, mind you!) then Ian still has a really good chance to make the relay because Salo isn't just going to hand the spot to Michael no questions asked.
Whew! Cause I've been worried...

i'd forgotten about this until i tried to find results for the diving events so far: omega will be sponsoring the results and if you go to their website (available through montreal2005.org) during the swimming events, they'll be "showing" the races as they happen. as in, whatever is on the timing board at the meet will be on your computer screen, complete with WR splits and reaction times.
at least, that's what they did during World Trials, and I'd say it's the next best thing to actually being able to watch it. Needless to say, I was deemed a "loser" in my household for being glued to numbers and bars of color on the computer screen, but hey, it was fun.

and about the medley!
me, i'm a huge phelps fan as a flyer, but as a relay swimmer he's got nothing on ian, if only for the fact that ian has started off brendan SO many times and familiarity is always a nice thing.
me, I hate going off a backstroker i'm not used to (will they glide into the wall or take a short stroke?) and relay exchanges on our high school team are always so much better when i know what our flyer expects and she knows what i'm going to do if i end up having to choose between a long glide or a shorter stroke.
i can't really see them putting phelps in as the flyer, as i'm sure ian will be more rested anyway, not swimming as many events. (or is he? i haven't been paying much attention to that.)
