Interview with Brendan

There's a GREAT interview with Brendan posted on the Duel in the Pool website. He talks about what motivates him in training and in competition. He also talks about what he likes to do outside the pool and even giggles a little at one point. Don't miss it!

  • Giggles! Yes! From now on I shall call him giggles.

Great interview, thanks for the link Meesh.

  • Awww..he gave a shoutout to Jack. It reminds me how much I want a little puppy. Can one of y'all call my landlord and convince him that dogs aren't all that bad?

That was a really good interview. He sounded so serious so the laughing was cute. I like the silly better than the serious. Also, all I have to say is..Bad Australian team, bad. ;)

  • Very nice! And him laughing about mowing the lawn was awesome, especially since we all know from previous chats that he hates to mow the lawn. *cough*seechatIrecappped*cough*

  • I'm thinking that either the interviewer of the editor was female... Only a woman would know how great it is to have that little chuckle. I will be sittin in LAX in 24 hours... waiting to take off. ::squee!:: I hope I will have a chance to get my predictions up.. If I cant get them up on time I will hand them to Michelle and then I will post them when I get back. As much as I am going to enjoy watching it live.. I will miss sitting in the chatroom watching Omega.

  • I enjoyed the giggling as well. Glad to know he's "living it up in Austin."
By the way, whatever happened to the questions we asked Brendan a few months ago? I know he's been way busy lately, but I was just making sure I didn't miss them in a chat or something. It's the same way with the Ian questions on Texas-Trio.com. In any event, I will just sit by the TV reading the Odyssey for school, waiting for Duel. (I didn't mean for that to rhyme. Kind of lame)

  • Well that made my day.

Such a sexy voice...and the giggle? That was the best!

  • I was so worried that I missed the giggle that I kept restarting, but as soon as heard it, oh, I knew.
Thanks for the link Michelle! That was soooo worth it.

Oh my gosh!!! Check this out -- it's ridiculous if you ask me. If there's one thing we have in common with Australia, it's that FINA is wrong in supporting KKs illegal dolphin kick and allowing it in this year's World Championships.
And just as a side note, how are they allowed to decide/announce this 3 days before competition begins? Have they gone mad?!
I hope everyone going up to Montreal has a safe flight! Cheer extra loud for me!

By Blogger summertx, at 7/21/2005 9:47 PM

  • I cannot believe that...
(curses in all the languages I can speak) This just sucks. They've tainted the breatstroke, in my humble opinion.

By Blogger Lena, at 7/21/2005 9:53 PM

  • Whatever happened to not breaking the horizontal plane? That's just...against the rules all over the place. Notice it's the powerhouses against the decision. I flat-out refuse to do it.

By Blogger skye, at 7/21/2005 10:23 PM

  • Thats ridiculous..so if the countries in favor of the dolphin kick do it in competition and the countries opposed such as USA and Australia don't then some swimmers will have an advantage over the ones who choose not to do the dolphin kick on Moral grounds.

I mean most swimmers arent even close to Brendan's caliber to where it would make a difference but I just hate how they are almost rewarding cheato... and allowing the kick is easier than making the effort to make sure it doesnt happen again in competition.

    But thats just me.

By Blogger jenny, at 7/21/2005 10:32 PM

  • *growls*
That is overwhelmingly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. What are these crazy people thinking?

    By Blogger molly_mormon88, at 7/21/2005 11:06 PM

  • WOW. I had no idea that was under discussion! Where have I been? That's huge. And ugh, it sends such a bad message. "Cheat and we'll just change the rules for you." And not just a touch inappropriate to announce the ruling 3 days beforehand, when it's too late for people to add it to their training. Because it DOES help, but may throw you off if you're not used to doing it. Yowza...the more I hear about FINA, the more I'm convinced that their management operates from a zoo cage.

On a brighter note, I loved listening to Bren's voice! He's become quite the savvy interviewee. I too love that he laughed and joked about mowing the lawn. It's nice to see his personality shine through after all the formal interview questions.

  • i was just reading the the sheet that says what everybody is in, and i just realised gyurta dani is nto swimming!!:sobs:

By Blogger Bettie, at 7/22/2005 4:29 AM

  • maybe DanaCara or John can shed some light on this, but from from what I understand in talking to some of my old college coaches, this has been under discussion in the swimming world for awhile(the Fina/dolphin kick article) so I kind of saw this coming...
    BUT
crackinup is right, the timing of it is quite interesting. And considering I dont think Bren will be adjusting his stroke within the next three days, and KK has already been following his own set of rules long before this.

Doesnt matter...Bren will still whoop his a$$.

    By Blogger swimphilly78, at 7/22/2005 7:47 AM

  • Ok here is some info, back in April there was an article about the dolphin kick in breaststroke in one of the swim magazines. I showed it to Bren when he was home and had heard about it. I do not know if he incorporated this into his training or not, and at this point I think it is moot.

Let us not forget the hours of prep work these athletes do for this type of competition, aching muscles, endless practices, and being so tired it hurts to walk up steps. So I am asking everyone to forget about this....and to focus on getting the POSITIVE ENERGY FLOWING HERE !!! Bren knows what he needs to do and that is to swim his race to the best of his ability....I know he will do that because that is the type of competitor he is.

By Blogger Aunt K, at 7/22/2005 8:10 AM

  • You GO Aunt K!!!
All about Positive Energy here baby! ;)
Everyone have a safe trip up! Cant wait to catch up with old friends, and meet new some ones! See ya next week!

    By Blogger swimphilly78, at 7/22/2005 8:16 AM

  • I am with you Aunt K! Bren is the master of the Breastsroke and he is ready to make that pool his. I am honored to cheer for him, and not just because he is a member of "my team". As a matter of fact there are many people here at BHO who do not have USA as their national team and he is still their Champion. This will be my last post before I get to Montreal. If there is a computer in the Hotel tonight I may get a chance to use it. If not you all have fun in the chat room doing the group OMEGA timing thing.. although some people will get live feed I hope. So those of you here, help each other out. Up in Montreal we will be calming MrsH and medicating AuntK, and trying to keep Aunt C from being the innocent victim again. Heh.
I cant wait too see Brendan do his pump it up clap. He is gunna tear Montreal up!

By Blogger lala, at 7/22/2005 9:03 AM

  • Aww---what a cute interview with Brendan! But dude, hire a neighborhood kid to mow your lawn! ;)

FINA and the rule change...well, I have nothing to say about that, other than Bren doesn't need to use a dolphin kick anyway, so if they had to change the rules so Cheato can feel better about himself...well, whatever! We're still calling you a cheater, Cheato!

And...I'm almost ready for Montreal! Well, if you don't consider that I haven't done my laundry, shopped for the stuff I need, taken the photos of Indy off my camera, dragged the suitcases out, or anything else yet as being "ready". ;) But I printed out my plane ticket, and got my phone switched to a Canada plan, so I have accomplished some stuff to prepare at least!

Now, I'd better get this work on my desk done, or I'll be stuck dragging it to Montreal with me!

By Blogger Shannen, at 7/22/2005 9:11 AM

  • Safe travels to everyone heading to Montreal and I will see y'all in a few days!

By Blogger Alison, at 7/22/2005 9:44 AM

  • As far as the dolphin kick ruling goes, I do remember reading that in Swimming World Magazine back in Aprilish, I believe. And it said that Kitajima's dolphin kick would still be illegal under the new rules. So I don't quite get it, but... there you go.

    By Blogger a, at 7/22/2005 10:20 AM

  • Swimming World Magazine published an article about the dolphin kick thing back a couple of months ago. My understanding is that this doesn't make what kitajima did legal because his kick was after the pull out and this only applies to the pull-out. Regardless of any rule changes Bren will smoke the field because he's worked his ass off all year and he's the best breaststroker in the world. I'm sure the only thing he's focused on is swimming his own race and achieving a personal best.

By Blogger Michelle, at 7/22/2005 10:49 AM

  • While I still think this is all a bunch of hooey, Bren set 2 WRs (more if you include short course and relays) without no stinkin' dolphin kick. And he will again!

All of you heading to Montreal this weekend, HAVE FUN! I can't wait to meet everyone next week. I'll be the one at prelims with coffee in one hand, a bloody mary in the other.

By Blogger crackinup, at 7/22/2005 2:31 PM

  • I don't even understand how something like that could even be brought up! That's crazy. What the reast of you are saying is true, though. Brendan will grill the competition no matter what. Have fun in Montreal, to those who are going. Don't get into too much trouble. ;)
