Brendan featured in August's Swimming World Magazine

I've added scans of this months "How They Train" feature by John Lohn and Phillip Whitten to the Magazine and Newspaper scans gallery. Those of you looking for more information about Brendan's workouts should definitely click on the pages below.

And check out the new photo of John Lohn that Peter Bick sent to me. John was hard at work in Montreal, toiling away in the bright sun. Great photo Peter!

  • One of my sisters subscribes to this magazine and I read this article on Sunday, actually her daughter is also mentioned in the 100 breaststroke where they list top times in the country.

Oh, and those are Peter's pictures of Brendan with the article, wonder if he gets to choose the shots or who actually does.

  • Excellent article, John! It's a joy to read your work.
And it is interesting to read about Brendan's training. He's a hard working guy.

  • Such a great article. You never cease to amaze, Jello. :P

Great pic as well, Peter. I'm glad you were able to spot John in the stands. I could *never* find the guy, and not for lack of trying. I finally spotted him the very last day, last session. Always hard at work, typing away on that laptop.

  • Great article. Hard working is an understatement. I'm all worn out just reading about his workout. Very impressive.

  • Wow...what a training regamin (sp?) That's cool. I wish I got swimming world, but i just look at it online everyday. That's a good article...just love his work :)

  • To answer Aunt K's question, I do not get to choose images, the photo editor does that. Swimming World has thousands of my imaes in their files and when they write a story they see what they have of a subject and select from what they have or go out and get shots from sources.

I do decide what I submit to them for the files, so in that sense I 'choose' what can be published. In other instances when we do a specific shoot for a story as we recently did with Katie Hoff and Margaret Hoelzer, I know what will be used.

The shot of John roasting in the sun was shot from the stands on the opposite side of the pool and what you see is cropped form the larger pic.

    Enjoy!

  • John's got some nice shades!

  • John "The Superstar" Lohn was a very sneaky fella. I never did actually see him up there. Nice article of course. It made me feel like a complete slacker when I compared it to my workout routine. Thanks alot Bren. ;) I felt like I was actually accomplishing something...lol. I do have to add this renewed dedication to working out came after Worlds. All those girls with their killer bodies kicking butt up there made me feel kinda guilty.

  • WOW! another great article from John. I don't know how you do it.
And I loved reading Brendan's workouts. I've actually always wondered how much breaststroke he did in his workouts.

and thanks to Peter for getting the great shot of John in action. :o)

  • I read that article in the hard copy, and did a little cheer when I saw John and Peter's names. Much more fun to read these articles when you know the people associated with them. If you get the magazine, there's also a hilarious article on the annoying habits of masters swimmers. (leaving early on interval training, etc.)

Yikes on Bren's workout regimine! I think that's more breaststroke than I've swum cumulatively in the past six months. My ankles hurt just reading the article. Cool to see how he trains nonetheless, there's a reason Brendan's the star that he is. And Aunt K, I guess it runs in the family!

  • Great pics and article Peter and John, =).

    quote from Kate:
..thanks to Peter for getting the great shot of John in action. :o)

    Ha-ha...so true, :D.

  • Hello Ladies...My name's Mika and I'm a newbie here...I'm from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and have been viewing this site for a while now, so I figured, why not join a site with people that share my same interest in Sweet Brendan?!!

By Blogger Mika, at 8/18/2005 10:21 PM

  • Welcome Mika!!

Crackinup: I would love to read that article about masters swimmers and their habits. I love my team but some of them are nuts. Do you know if it's online somewhere that I can read it?

By Blogger Kate, at 8/19/2005 8:20 AM

  • Kate - If you email me your address, I'll mail you my issue on Monday.

Maria - he does look very Nascar, doesn't he. I think it's the Oakleys. I almost want to get him a zip-up fireproof tyvek suit in primary colors, covered in advertisements for motor oil and tractors. :)

John - the article is great. Then again, I think most of what you produce lands in the treasure category.

  • That dude looks...oddly familiar.

By Blogger Verbal, at 8/20/2005 8:41 PM

  • My favorite thing about that photo of John is that it's evidence of the painstaking effort he went through to find a lap top that would color coordinate with his homepage...BHO. Good work John. The blue and gray was a perfect choice.

Welcome to BHO Mika. I hope you post frequently!

By Blogger Michelle, at 8/21/2005 2:16 PM

  • Welcome Mika! I hope you post often... don't worry, we don't bite (that much)

By Blogger Lena, at 8/21/2005 4:57 PM

ps. I have the same laptop as John. Its awsome.

And welcome Mika! We love new posters! I hope you come back around :)
