Brown's on a Golden Quest

Brown came into the world aquatic championships last month ranked fifth in his specialty. But only world record holder Brendan Hansen of the U.S. touched the wall first in Montreal.

His plan for Beijing has also gotten much more ambitious. Montreal accelerated his thinking, though he's still very aware just how much it's going to take.

"Athens really opened my eyes about how hard it is," said Brown. "It was my first Olympics, and I got a taste of the final. But I really wanted to get on the podium. "I can see myself there (in Beijing). I see no reason why I can't be on top of the podium." (<---- says Canada's Mike Brown)

  • I see no reason why he won't be at the top of the podium, either! He's going to kick some serious arse in Beijing, and hopefully I'll be there as well. *crosses fingers*
    Rock on Brendan!

  • OOh Meredith, that article is about Mike Brown from Canada, Not Brendan. I think that Mike has been swimming well. And I have to tell you the crowd in Canada really carried their team. It was very exciting seeing what an athlete can accomplish with alot of support. The cheers were deafening any time a Canadian was in the water. Brendan gets the top spot... But I think Mike has the stuff to battle for number 2. He will have the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne next spring where he has a good chance of being on top. He may be one of the strongest Breaststrokers in the Commonwealth, but the Aussie crowd is very dedicated and Brenton Rickard will have home team advantage.. Then he gets to swim before a home crowd in Vancouver at the Pan Pacs. But Brendan might be there. So he will have to battle for number 2. We like our breaststroker on top.

  • I'm all for Mike Brown doing well and landing on the podium in Beijing, just as long as it isn't on top. That spot belongs to Brendan!

  • Yeah, what Lala and Aims said.

Brown was awesome in Montreal, and lala's right. Those Canadians really carried their team during every swim, be it a final or just a heat.

  • I'll cheer for anyone other that kosuke cheatascreama...lol. But we all know that Brendan will STILL be the best, and since Canda is right next to the US, i'll cheer for canada and mike brown too...i'm good at my reasoning skills.

  • I think everyone just about covered it! It'd be nice to see Brown up there, but there's no doubt who the top of the podium belongs to.

  • Ok, I cannot tell you how embarrased I am right now. *blushes beat red* Thanks for correcting me, but...maybe I'll just stop talking. But hey, doesn't everyone agree with my statement.
I guess I just need to actually read and, uh, comprehend what I just read. Oops. Please forgive me!

  • Aw, shout out to the ever adorable Mike Brown. I would love to see him on the (lower steps of the) podium in Beijing. But truthfully, I think he has his work cut out for him. The two people -- other than Bren -- who are most likely to beat him weren't swimming the 200 in Montreal.
