Duel In The Pool on TV
I hope you all were able to watch Part One of the television coverage on NBC of the Duel today. I was great how Brendan was covered. He and Micheal Phelps were pretty much the voice of Team USA. And once again Bren goes under a minute. There were some nice features of him Rowdy is such a Brendan Hansen fan. We need to invite him to chat sometime. Make sure you watch tomorrow, (NBC: 12:30 Eastern, 11:30 Brendan 9:30 Pacific) when Brendan will be swimming the 200m Breast. I don't want to give it away for anyone who wasn't watching or hasn't read coverage of the event.. But let me just say I think you all will be happy with the results. I don't know if they will show this or not but after his race Brendan left the interview area and came over to the grandstands and threw his cap to the crowd. None of the others had been over to our side of the pool at that point and it was a wonderful surprise. He is a role model for his team and he is generous with his fans as well. The man who cought his cap was teasing two young girls that he might let them trade off wearing it at swim practice. Nike missed an opportunity to use their swimmers in a few comercials during this broadcast. Although I guess this was a Speedo event. I will be watching tomorrow to see who wins. Right now I am off to the Nationals, where last night Club Wolverine set a new American record in the 4x200m relay. I can bet there will be no upsets in Breaststroke tonight.

I wasn't home today, so I asked my dad to tape it and he forgot! Is there any way I can watch the first part online?

Dangit! I didn't know there were two parts, and I missed it today. I thought they were just replaying it on Sunday. Phooey.
Hopefully we can at least see parts somewhere on the internet.

It seems quite a few people are waiting for a tape being put online. Will there be a chance of that? Anyone? Pretty please?

I really hope everyone can make an effort to watch it today on TV. Mutual of Omaha finally got the network to televise the meet. NBC will see how many people are interested in swimming and will take a poll to see if it is worth it to do something like this again. If they feel they are not going to get the viewers, it will be the last time they air the meet. This is why the World meet is not televised in the US.
I guess in the end everything comes down to money and right now Mutual of Omaha has a lot a stake.
I hope the heat and hot weather keeps everyone in and close to the TV.

I definitely watched it yesterday and will be today. It's been great to see swimming on TV again. Who knows when the next time will be? Helps my withdrawl from Montreal be just a wee bit easier!

What?? They just skipped the 200m Breast events!
I am not going to curse them.. at least they are showing the meet. But why Bren's race?! They skipped the women's too and their 400IM. Grrrr.... But I saw B-Dogg in a commercial. Weee!

haha..i came here to vent about NBC skipping the mens 200 breast but it looks like a few beat me to the punch..
but like lala said..they did air the meet in the first place which is a step in the right direction. i watched it both days and it was so exciting.
as usual Bren and the rest of the trio did great as did Phelps and the rest of team USA!

Mrs. H, Is there anything we can do to help swimming become more visible? Would an email (sports@msnbc.com)or a letter to NBC Sports be helpful? I don't quite understand how it all works. If you have any info that'd be great. I'd really love to see swimming televised more often.
Thanks,
-Donna-
p.s. Congrats to Brendan! It was lovely to see you detailed on Duel in the Pool too!

mrs. h, you would be so proud of me today...
i came on here this morning and read what you wrote..then around noon-ish when the Duel was showing (don't worry i got it taped), i went shopping and went with my brother into Sears, Circuit City, and Best Buy...and between 12:30 to 2pm, i turned EVERY SINGLE one of their TVs onto NBC for the Duel...
hope that helped a little bit heh heh

I updated Texas Trio with some screencaps from Duel in the Pool, including caps of Brendan. I've got more to add later, but I thought those were a nice start.

I was able to watch Part 2 today and tape it - I'm so happy that a swimming event was finally shown on TV - hopefully the ratings were good enough that NBC or other sports channels will start broadcasting more swimming stuff - seriously, I think we'd all rather see swimming on ESPN rather than poker or food eating contests, when last I checked weren't even sports. ;)

That's hilarious Carla, nice job.

Carla NICE job, that totally made my day.
I'm so sad because I thought that the Duel was being covered by some tricky channel that I didn't have. But alas, I have it, and have now missed it completely. Oh please let there be videos online!

Carla, that story is hilarious!
I told everyone I knew to watch the Duel on TV, so hopefully every little bit will help. It was just great to see swimming on tv again.
