The entire city of New Orleans needs to be evacuated, says LA Governor.
This entire situation is so sad. My thoughts are with all those who were affected by the hurricane.

I heard that they were ordering a mandatory evacuation. It's so unfortunate that such a disaster would ever has to take place. I could never imagine having to start life over without anything like these victims do. Its just unfathomable to imagine the pain of living there at this time. I hope that everyone does what they can do to help these people...even if it is just something simple like saying how bad this disaster is. I hope everyone is safe.

My prayers are with everyone in the path of the hurricane. This one hits home moreso because one of my coworkers has a daughter and grandbaby somewhere in N.O. that she hasn't heard from since Saturday night. I hope everyone made it out ok, and for those elsewhere in the world, if you can, please donate to the Red Cross. If you don't have the money to spare, but are over the age of 17, find a blood drive. The evacuated hospital patients and wounded could surely use it.

The pictures on the news and the articles I read online made me very sad; I have a very close friend who lives in the Florida panhandle, so I definitely understand the worry and panic.
I hope everyone's doing okay.

Unfathomable tragedy. My heart is with the victims, the Red Cross volunteers, the FEMA staff that is now coordinating thousands of mobile homes to be placed in southern Alabama, basically as refugee camps - and the Army Corps of Engineers that is trying to reinforce and seal these levees. That is literally a task of biblical proportions.
I donated. I wish I could be there firsthand to help.

It's a shame that such a tragedy had to happen. My heart breaks for all the people who have lost loved ones. Knowing that everything you have is completely destroyed must be incredibly hard to deal with. I hope and pray that they get everyone out and no more damage is done. I'm just glad no one I know is down there right now and if you do have someone down there I hope you have heard from them. So sad...

My thoughts are with everyone who were affected by Katrina. I was actually in New Orleans the day of the evacuation and was lucky to get out. We couldn't get west, like we had planned, so we made many stops along the way to Texas. At each stop, we encountered families, who had left everything behind. It felt like terrible nightmare. I definitely feel the need to give back the people who were affected. . .

I'm glad to say my parents in Alabama got their power back on about an hour ago. They only lost a pear tree in the back yard and a few shingles. They had stayed home and didn't even listen to us when we told them to buy a generator. They were almost on their way to my house when the power came back on. Which was great, because I had just looked on the Alabama Power website--they were guaranteeing 99% of the people would have power by Sept. 7th, a whole week away.
I also talked to my best friend, who had evacuated to a town just past Tallahassee, FL. She'll be going home tomorrow, but she wasn't able to get a hold of another friend of ours who lived outside New Orleans. At least that girl and her family drove up to Memphis to get away.
