Prediction Contest Results and NEW Contest

Janine barely squeaked this one out over Tinkerbell to win the Worlds T-shirt and autographed swim cap and with such a close victory I think Tink should get something too so I'm sending her an autographed swimcap as well. The full results are:

1. Janine 756
2. Tinkerbell 753
3. Jenny 720
Skye 720
4. Kate 709
5. Alex 707
6. Andrea 706
7. Ms of Arc 699
8. StephieMc 692
9. Kellypete 687
10. Jessie 665

Now, for the NEW - EXTRA SPECIAL Contest. This is such a great prize that it's going to take a great effort to win it. Most of you may not realize it but the 1st of September will be BHO's 1st Birthday. I'd love to have a great new t-shirt design for the fan stuff page to celebrate and I want one of you to design it. The rest of us will vote on a winner and the first place prize is an autographed computer bag/backpack from Brendan's Olympic collection (pictured below). Second place will receive an autographed swim cap and third place will get a USA Swimming pin and autograph card. There are no requirements, be creative. It can be an inspirational quote, a photo blend, a drawing...whatever you want. I'd love to see as many of you contribute as possible and you can even team up if you'd like, though I'm not sure how you'd share the bag if you won. Peter Bick has graciously offered the use of his photos in your designs and you should have no trouble finding inspiration in his collection.

Email your designs to me by August 25th, and we'll have 6 days of voting to determine the winner. Good luck!

  • Well done Janine and Tinkerbell! Or rather, well done to all of you who actually had the patience to sit down and do projections. On a good day, I can make through a single BHO post without getting distrac...

Sweet prize on the backpack Michelle. It's a shame that my visual arts acuity rivals that of a concrete brick.

  • I think I'm with crackinup in the sense that my visual art skills never...emerged. But I'm totally excited to see what everyone else's ideas are!
Way to go Janine and Tinkerbell! I can't imagine putting that much time into something. I think my attention span ran away when school ended. I applaud you.
    *claps*

    By Blogger molly_mormon88, at 8/10/2005 10:54 PM

  • First of all congrats to Janine and Tinkerbell on their prognosticatory excellence!

For those of you creating T shirt designs for the new contest, you may use any of my images in your design if you so desire.

    We all await the entries!

By Blogger PeterBick, at 8/10/2005 11:37 PM

  • I'd so like to do the contest, but I basically can only do blendish sort of things (with actual pictures) rather than vectorish graphics like the cool BHO logo one... I've never tried those kind. Are you looking for a particular kind, Michelle?

By Blogger Brittany, at 8/11/2005 12:22 AM

  • Hooray for Janine and Tink, and for clever, clever Michelle!

Special hoorays for Peter Bick!! Who ever said that professional photographers weren't just sweethearts??? Maybe he should design a shirt himself......

Fabulous work, ladies (and gentleman....er, plural)

Oh, and I just wanted to mention that I happened by the USMS website today, and saw a thread that mentioned both the texas-trio website, and our very own BHO. I'll try and post the link tomorrow if I can remember it once I get off work.

By Blogger Steph R., at 8/11/2005 12:43 AM

  • Yeah yeah, so I decided to post it now, cuz I figured I'd definitely forget cuz things at work are crazy right now.....

    http://forums.usms.org/showthread.php?s=&postid=45275#post45275

My id on the usms site is thisgirl13, with the little blue dress logo thing.

Disclaimer - the comments I made on the thread were totally not made in offense or slander to the BHO, or any, fan girls of the guys. You know I love you! It's just, ya know, me talkin'. To a bunch of older swimmers who really don't get it. ;)

By Blogger Steph R., at 8/11/2005 12:52 AM

  • Brittany - I'm not looking for anything specific and a blend would be great, just do it at a little higher resolution than usual so that it will look pretty when it's printed out. Maybe 150 or 200 DPI instead of 72. I love your blends and hope you'll do something for the contest.

Peter - I can't believe I forgot to mention that you gave me permission to use your images. I'm definitely editing the original post to add that. What a gift!

Steph R - Thanks for sharing that link with us. I WISH I were 21, but in reality I am much older. (weeps) I only own BHO, and have no affiliation with any of the others. I have never met Texas Gal from Texas Trio, Milk from APO or Suz from SwimStars. I've only emailed with them on a few occasions. The only other webmasters I've met are Sarah from Ian Crocker Online and Terrie from Randall Bal.us because they are active members here at BHO and we all stayed together in Montreal. (They are lovely girls btw). While I myself have never been a competitive swimmer I know that many of the posters here at BHO are and I hope to add more about Brendan's training and workouts to the website over the next year so that there is a resource for fans looking for more than just pretty pictures and videos.

By Blogger Michelle, at 8/11/2005 1:20 AM

  • Congratulation, girls! You were all really good! If I made a prediction, I would probably end up way way below. :-) Have fun!

    By Blogger anya8, at 8/11/2005 3:47 AM

  • With my scatterbrain I probably wont actually end up entering the contest, but, if so, are you just allowed to send in one submission, or how many?

By Blogger Kayte, at 8/11/2005 4:08 AM

  • Michelle, any size that you want for the blend?

    Congrats to the winners!!!

By Blogger Lena, at 8/11/2005 7:09 AM

  • Hey there; I met you guys (Michelle and Lala) in Montreal. I thought I'd post and try my hand at this contest.......Any specs we should know? Size, file ending, etc.?

    :D

By Blogger Barb, at 8/11/2005 7:49 AM

  • Size - it should be small enough to fit on a t-shirt and the resolution should be at least 150 dpi. Any file type you can manage is fine although png files will look best. PDF, jpg, gif, and even powerpoint files are fine though. Whatever you can do, do. If you want to make a collage or drawing or cartoon and mail it to me, that's fine too. I'll scan it for you. If it's just words it can be an email or text file. (I'm secretly hoping that Anna submits her recent Bren D-O- Double G lyrics, hint hint.) I've seen how creative you guys can be with the Valentine contest so I know you all have it in you.

By Blogger Michelle, at 8/11/2005 9:12 AM

  • Kayte - lets say each of you can submit up to 3 entries but no more than that. And don't put your names on them. I can add credits after the voting if you'd like, but I'd like them to be anonymous for the voting period.

Oh, and thanks for finally posting Barb! It was great meeting you in Montreal. Now post repeatedly.

By Blogger Michelle, at 8/11/2005 9:17 AM

  • Sadly, having never made a graphic for a T-shirt before, I have no idea what fits.

LOL... a range would be helpful...

    :)

By Blogger Barb, at 8/11/2005 10:28 AM

  • *Hangs head*

I can't play this one. I'm so technilogically (is that a word??) lacking I don't even know what half of Meesh's posts mean. So I will cheer all of you girls on. All you have to include is forehead wrinkles and froggy feet to make it perfect. ;)

I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with.

By Blogger blairbecky, at 8/11/2005 11:07 AM

  • Barb - Lets say it should be no larger than 8.5 x 11 inches. Is that specific enough?

Blair - draw me a picture of a frog with forehead wrinkles and I'll scan it for you. ;)

By Blogger Michelle, at 8/11/2005 11:25 AM

  • Thank you, Michelle, that's perfect.

    :)

By Blogger Barb, at 8/11/2005 11:30 AM

  • Blair, please draw what Michelle asks you to... i'd love to see that one.

Well, i'll try to blend some things tomorrow. It would be a nice way to sooth the nervous breakdown i'm suffering right now. Well, at least better now than during the tournament, don't you think?

And Boss, we all know you're 21 ;)

By Blogger Lena, at 8/11/2005 11:47 AM

  • This sounds like it's going to be a tough competition, especially since you lost me at DPI sizes. But i will give it a go, maybe even with my Bren D-O-Double G...

By Blogger Anna, at 8/11/2005 1:22 PM

  • It looks like I'm out of the game as well.
Michelle, I'm trying to respond on your e-mail all day, but my e-mails keep coming back to me with a message: The user does not accept email in non-Western (non-Latin) character sets.
Oh, well. I'm looking forward to voting. I'm sure you all will do a great job!
    Enjoy!
    Anja

    By Blogger anya8, at 8/11/2005 1:39 PM

  • Anya - I've changed my settings. Try again!

Y'all don't let anything I'm saying about DPI throw you off. Just do something and we'll worry about the technical stuff later.

By Blogger Michelle, at 8/11/2005 2:06 PM

  • Yes, come on, I did not follow half of the things Michelle explain (DPI, inches that I have yet toconvert in centimeters, and a few more things) but I'm giving it a try anyway.

Remember both the Essay Contest and the Valentine Day's Contest? We've had tons of fun in those, let's do it again.

By Blogger Lena, at 8/11/2005 2:26 PM

  • Michelle - uh-huh. I'm sure you're not 21. *rolls eyes*.....we'll just keep that nasty little secret to ourselves, won't we girl? You'll always be fabulous, and what those jokers at USMS don't know won't hurt them a bit *hehe*

As far as the contest, if anyone can explain the Russian that Meesh spouted in her explanation, take a shot. I dare ya. If that doesn't work (and as we're talking about me here, I think I'm the reigning expert) I'd be more than willing to submit a drawing if somebody more computer-worthy could make it fit the mumbo-jumbo parameters or whatever.

    Let me know. :)

By Blogger Steph R., at 8/11/2005 7:03 PM

  • I saw the USMS thread earlier today. Michelle, you're getting younger and younger! Anyway, who says you can't be a fan and a swimmer at the same time? Or admire talent and physique simultaneously? Life should never be so compartmentalized.

Personally, after being an observer at meets for the past couple weeks, I have BIG plans to use that inspiration to avoid drowning this very weekend at masters nationals. I will be channeling Brendan as best I can, when I pant my way through the breaststroke leg of the 200IM. I think the last time I swam a LC meet was in the 80s. I only wish I were kidding.

By Blogger crackinup, at 8/11/2005 9:14 PM

  • But crack, think of the comeback you'll be making in the swimming world! You'll do a great job, I'm sure of it. =)

By Blogger BeachGirl, at 8/12/2005 9:13 AM

  • crackingup....make sure you let us know how you do this weekend!!!! Know I am there in spirit, cheering for ya....good luck.

By Blogger Aunt K, at 8/12/2005 9:23 AM

  • Great idea with the new contest Michelle, I can't wait to see all the wonderful designs. Maybe I'll even try my hand at something, tho I'm not that creative....

    By Blogger lizook12, at 8/12/2005 9:26 AM

  • Crack, good luck at masters national! I know you can totally make it, girl.

As for me, I'll be channeling some awesome Pumpkin drive while shooting Archery National Finals (I leave in less than 6 hours and I have yet to pack. Well, my bow is packed and that is the most important thing, right?)

See ya all when I come back on Monday! And Michelle, I'll submitt the blends latter next week

    Hugs

By Blogger Lena, at 8/12/2005 11:13 AM

  • Good luck crackinup and Lena!!! :)

By Blogger Alexandra, at 8/12/2005 12:21 PM

  • This contest is gunna be sick! Lets try to keep the voting fair too... no dolphin kicks by showing your friends yours and having them vote for you. I want that backpack and I don't have any friends to vote for me ;)

I think everyone should try something. You all have a great sense of humor and I think you are selling yourselves short. I say go for it! Give it a try. Come on. Do it! Sometime the best designs are the most elementary.
Lena.. shoot true, you know you can do it... Crack.. swim fast! I'll be screaming for ya.

By Blogger lala, at 8/12/2005 12:30 PM

  • I am suddenly feeling sad....lala, I am a friend, so what was with that comment, lady??

Lena, positive energy coming your way...now it has a way to go but should be there by the time you compete !!!!

By Blogger Aunt K, at 8/12/2005 12:34 PM

  • Crackinup - Best of luck, will be thinking about you and wishing you a LCM power surge! :)

    DC

By Blogger Dana Cara, at 8/12/2005 1:19 PM

  • I'm feeling rather upset too, Lala, you know I consider you a good and true friend, so what started that comment? You have lots of friends here, girlie. *hugs*

By Blogger Silawen, at 8/12/2005 2:15 PM

  • Lala... you're breaking all of our hearts. You know we considered you a great friend.
Personally, you're like a sister to me and you know it. You gave the stenght I needed back in the day with archery, remember?

Thanks for all the good wishes. I'm tired but I'm gonna go there and do my best. The whole Lt thing is certainly exhausting. How Grant manages to be Team Captain and still look as fine as he does? I look like a mess!!!

OK, enough rambling... you've had enough of that from me to last you a lifetime.

    See you all on Monday!

By Blogger Lena, at 8/12/2005 2:21 PM

  • Aw, thanks everyone, I appreciate the well wishes. I'm excited for the 50 fly, always a fun event, but I'm a little terrified about some of the longer races. A little fear is healthy, right? ;-)

Good luck Lena, have fun! And lala, I'm currently humming "you've got a friend." Hah.

By Blogger crackinup, at 8/12/2005 3:32 PM

  • Obviously you all missed the winky I put after the "no friends" statement. I was being ironic(al)! I was referign to the fact that we want to keep this fair so that people who are unknown have the same chance to win as those of us who are well known here. Thanks for the love you sweeties. I never doubt you!
