Roland Schoeman Chat Reminder - This Sunday Afternoon at 6 Eastern/5 Central/3 Pacific

Roland Mark Schoeman (born 3 July 1980) is a South African swimmer and a member of the 2004 Olympic Games swimming team for South Africa.
He was born in Pretoria, and first ventured seriously into a pool when he was 16, in order to show a girl how interested he was in her. Within a few months he was swimming competitively, beginning a career that would see him attain one gold medal, two silvers and a bronze at the Commonwealth Games and set new South African records in the 100m Freestyle (48.69s), 50m Freestyle (22.04s), 100m Butterfly (52.73s) and 50m Butterfly (23.65s) events.
His latest achievements have been winning a gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens in the 4 x 100m freestyle, a silver medal in the 100m freestyle event and a bronze in the 50m freestyle (one of each just like Brendan).
At the 2005 LC World Championships in Montreal, Canada he won two gold medals. One in the 50m Butterfly (in a world record time of 22.96s) and one in the 50 Freestyle.
Achievements:
- Broke the World Record in the 50m Butterfly twice (23.01) & (22.96) in Montreal '05 to win Gold (and for those of us there it was SO EXCITING to see that.)
- Captured a 2nd gold medal in the 50 free in 21.69. That was just five-hundredths of a second off Alexander Popov's world record, making him the 2nd fastest performer ever in the 50m freestyle.
- 100m Individual Medley World Record - FINA World Cup (2005
- 100m Freestyle World record - FINA World Cup (2005)
- Voted continent of Africa's Male Athlete of the year 2004
- 100m freestyle silver medal - Olympics (2004)
- 4x100m freestyle relay gold medal - Olympics (2004)
- 50m freestyle bronze medal - Olympics (2004)
- 50m butterfly swimming silver medal - Commonwealth Games (2002)
- 50m freestyle swimming gold medal - Commonwealth Games (2002)
- 50m freestyle swimming bronze medal - World Championships (2001)

After seeing Roland at several meets this spring I finally had the courage to speak to Roland at Santa Clara. He was just kicking it. It was early before warm ups for the finals and he was still dressed. I went over to him and said hello. He shook my hand and asked my name and was very very nice to me. I told him how great it had been to see him swim all season and I wished him luck in Montreal. He was such a great guy and didn't make me feel at all silly for fan girling him. I love going to Sunay chat anyway but this weekend is goign to be great!

How ironic that someone named Verbal made a one word post.
Does everyone have a question ready for Roland? Want to leave your extras for those who can't think of one?

Two posts in one day! *gasps* I just wanted to share that the quiet and introverted librarian at my school walked by my computer just now and saw that first picture of Roland. She said and I quote "oh my!!" She walked away rather flustered. Ha. I swear I have a gift for converting school librarian's into swim lovers. This is the third convert this year. I should start an out reach program. Or I could just wait till I get home to check the blog!

You know that's not what it means, Michelle. :P I see my lovely little comment as being clear, concise, and to the point. :)

Good GOD!!!!!!!! He's a little hottie.
just wanted to post that I saw Aaron again yesterday! AH!! hahaa. He has class in the same building as me, and I saw him walking out. So, I'm talking to my best friend on the phone, and my sister is like, "Gina say Hi." All I said was, "Aaron Piersol!" He gave me the hottest smile in the world. That was my teeny moment for yesterday, and I am fully considering going to the thing on Tuesday so I can freakin' see Brendan. Alright, I believe I am done babbling.
Everyone be safe tonight if you're going out!

Gina- If you would have thrown yourself all over him and takled him to the ground...that would have been funnier.
I'm totally looking forward to the chat tomorrow, and I have an "ex-cellent" question. Me and lala did some research, and my ? will rock his sox. Of course, I will have back-up questions too. :)

Heh, Terrie I just noticed that Roland has the same bday as we do. Funny.
I am HOME and plan to be at chat today while I do some laundry, I even have the time change down. Hold your applause Mr. Peter Bick. ;-)
Gina, Aaron does have a great smile in person, I'll agree to that!
True story -- my friend and I were talking last weekend about how we're both a little burned out on LA -- the pollution, high cost of living, traffic, etc... All of the sudden she goes, "We should move to Austin." I just looked at her shocked and then burst out laughing. Of all the places for her to pick out of the blue.
