Phelps headlines list of stars to compete in NY

The Breaststroke Showdown

The breaststroke events have the potential to be the marquee races of the meet, as five U.S. Olympians are entered.

The men's side will feature a match-up between Brendan Hansen (Havertown, Penn. / Longhorn) and Ed Moses (Burke, Va. / Curl Burke), both world record holders and both Olympic gold medalists. Hansen owns the long course world records in the 100m and 200m breast, while Moses is the reigning short course world record holder in the 100m and 200m distances. 2004 Olympian Scott Usher (Grand Island, Neb. / Wyoming Aquatics) should also factor into the medal race.

  • I know I'm excited to see the breaststroke events. Actually,I'm excited to see all the events. There should be some great races and I'm glad so many of the top swimmers are choosing to be there.

Not bashing Phelps but why is he always the headliner. What about the gazillion other incredible swimmers that are going to be there? *sigh*

  • Those breast events are going to be some crazy races. I can't even begin to think about how they are going to turn out. That's whats taking me so long with the predictions, its the freaking breast events, I have nooo idea.

The entire meet is going to be pretty amazing though. Did you see that 200 free? Soo many good people in that race. Can't wait!

  • I wish I knew a little more about Moses. I mean he hasn't raced in a while so he could be really hungry right now. It is strange to see a psych sheet and see Ed's name in every slot. He and Brendan will really give each other a race. So exciting! You can see by the list of WR how different a Short Course is from a Long Course as far as what it takes to do it well. It doesn't always translate. Short course feels like break the surface stroke stroke turn break stroke stroke touch. There's your 50m. The prelims will be sick too. Why is my client not here.. she is late and I am all babble babble.
