Hey, can I ask you Americans how you celebrate Halloween? What traditions do you have? And I'm thinking children. (costumes, the trick-or-treat thing, what do you do if you don't get any treats, do you knock on all the doors, are there any do's and don'ts?)

  • No, that's not my dog cesca. I found that at Cute Overload and it cracked me up. That dog looks so serious and it reminded me of standing at the door waiting for my mom to take me trick or treating.

Tinkerbell - back in MY day (the dark ages of the 70's and 80's) you'd get all dressed up and as soon as it was dark you'd hit the neighborhood going door-to-door either with a parent when you were really little or with your friends when you got a bit older. You'd knock on doors where people have decorations or the lights are on and avoid the doors where the people are trying to pretend they aren't home because they don't have candy anyway and will just give you pennies or something lame. So, you'd knock on the door and say trick or treat when they answered. Then, HOPEFULLY they'd put candy in your bucket or bag and you'd go on your way to the next. If they didn't have candy, well, then you'd just be all disapointed and move on. SOME kids (like lala) might have played tricks, but not me. Once you got into highschool the trick or treating was thrown over in favor of going to parties and haunted houses. Good times...

    Hope I answered your question.

    Happy Halloween everyone!

Tink- I'm 20, and I'm still going trick-or-treating this year, with my cousin who is 22. Haha. Its pretty much what Michelle said, you go around to the houses, knock on the door, say trick or treat, and they hopefully give you good candy. The "darker" side of the holiday I guess is that once kids get older (teenage usually), at least around here, they go around with eggs and shaving cream, etc once it gets dark and "attack" passers by. I mean, I've had friends get hit by eggs that have been filled with Nair (a hair remover), been shot at with jawbreakers candy from a paintball gun. But in a way its fun, because if youre going to go out at night there is a little sense of doing something that isnt 100% safe.

I'm being Kim Possible this year. :)

  • Happy belated Alison and Happy birhtday MollyMormon!

Tinkerbell, as far as adults go for Halloween, it is a perfect opportunity for a good girl to dress up like a really bad girl and show off her stuff. The parties in my neighborhood this last weekend looked like the red light district! This is a college town and obvioulsy these girls didn't live with their Mommies any more! Hahaha!

A lot of my neighbors just walk around looking at everyone's pumpkins and decorations. Long Beach starts decorating on October 1st and just get scarier the longer the month goes on. For myself I will hopefully hang out with my neighbor boy adn hand out candy. I love this holiday because it is the only time that we are generous with strangers just for fun. I am leaving right now to see if I can find a pumpkin and some candy.

Oh and MIchelle.. I was the littel girl who was always doing tricks to GET the candy not punishing people who didn't give it out. I can't tell you how many cartwheels I did when I was little just for a treat!

Everyone have fun and be safe!
Happy Halloween to our own Great Pumkin, B Han too!

  • Well, we don't celebrate Halloween here, but I do look forward to all the scary movies that they're showing tonight! (Tink, beware, muhahaha.)

I hope everyone has fun, with whatever you celebrate or don't celebrate tonight, and I look forward to hearing the funny stories, haha.

  • Thanks ever so much Meesh for addicting me to the game! I've added it to my LJ in the hopes of addicting my other friends!

Happy Birthday Allison and Molly, and Happy Halloween to everyone else!

  • Haha, Silawen, don't worry. I will *not* be watching any scary movies tonight!

Thanks for answering, girls! The reason I asked, is because here in Norway, the Halloween tradition has taken over all our stores, and it's just too much, I think. I have talked to a lot of others who think that Halloween stinks here. The reason for that is that it is ruined by teenagers who throw eggs and snowballs and do other pranks. (Smashed egg on house + minusdegrees outside=impossible to get off) They even do pranks if they get candy, or if it's not the candy they want! And they go to all houses, including those who doesn't want Halloween visits. They are simply rude, and it destroys the fun that it could have been.
But there are lots of parents who go around with their kids, and make sure their kids behave, and have lots of fun.
It's just such a shame that it all has gotten blown out of proportions, and that some are ruining things for the rest of us.

I hope you all have a Happy Halloween where you live. (I'm sure glad the day is over here, though)

  • Happy Birthday Allison and MOlly..and Happy Halloween to everyone. Be safe.
Im on candy duty tonight and its so fun getting to see all the little kids in their costumes.

(oh and my mom and I went to the mall today and all the employees at all the stores were in costumes...there was this 50 year old man or so walking around in a French maid costume with high heels and knee high tights. The scary part is that he didn't look half bad.) =)

  • Thanks for the birthday wishes! I'm finally legal! Which pretty much just means my parents don't have to sign my consent forms anymore. Everything else? Pretty much the same...Happy Birthday Allison!
