Summer Nationals Podcasts

There wear quite a few podcasts made this summer and I know we have mentioned them before, but now that the excitement of the summer was gone, I thought it might be fun to revisit the podcasts of summer. I had already subscribed to the podcasts that Scott Goldblatt did for Speedo and Timed Finals and really enjoyed them, so I decided to search for more. While I was searching through the iTunes Store I found the podcasts that USA Swimming did from the warm up pool at Nationals in Irvine.

To get them, open the iTunes Store in iTunes and search for USA swimming. You will find a listing for USA Swimming Nationals. Download for free and enjoy. They are pretty silly, but it is sort of fun to find out what the swimmers do to entertain themselves during meets. They have quick answers from Brendan, Neil Walker and Aaron Peirsol to name a few.

It also looks like Brendan was scheduled to do an Ultimate Swim Clinic in Richmond, Virginia yesterday. Were any of you there? If so, let's hear about it!

  • I used to live in Richmond a loooong time ago. Bren, you are so late. ;)

Thanks for the heads up on the podcasts Lala. I've noticed that most of the swimmers are pretty funny and they say the darndest things.

  • This doesn't warrant a whole new post but I saw --->this video<---- about some high school boys who got suspended for a preseason game on "Jersey Night" at their school for wearing their team uniforms. The misrcreants are Water Polo players. That doesn't seem just somehow. To be fair to school administrators though, they had told these boys in the past to "keep their shirts on", as it were. But still... I don't see how guys in speedos, (or in this case TYR briefs), is bad for moral. As a mater of fact there are universities and high schools that have a speedo run or speedo walk to boost the profile of the team and raise some support. So I say "Boooo!" to the school admins for suspending these boys for a harmless little prank. Actually I can't in fairness call it a prank. I call it team spirit! I wonder if Coach Hansen's boys would ever do such a thing....

  • lala this is great.
thinking back to high school, and even coaching high school boys, its funny, when you are a swimmer/polo player/coach, speedos are the norm, no one thinks twice about running around in them, or deck changing, etc. I remember alot of my friends in school asking the girls on our team how come we didnt laugh at the guys we swam with, or do we sit next to them in class and picture them in their suit. I guess to an outsider of these sports, its still a "speedo" if the boys had the courage to run around jersey night in their "uniforms" I say good for them! anyway, I'm sure the football players were just jealous of how much more ripped the polo players were. anyone remember montreal??? ;)
I'd guess that coach hansens boys most likely would have done the same...but prob. not at their particular school! ha

  • I think the punishment didn't really fit the "crime". Sure,if they had a problem with it they could have asked them to put on their coverups. I personally think it's pretty funny and good for them for being comfortable running around in their speedos. Now what couldn't my school have had a swim or polo team. I'm completely jealous.
