Libby Lenton Smashes 100 Freestyle World Record at Duel in the Pool

  • Any word if the men's medley relay time was fast enough to ensure the US a spot in Beijing? I recall reading something somewhere that with the World Champs DQ, they'd have to swim fast in Sydney to get one of the 4 (?) at-large spots.

  • Glad to see Bren come back from that pesky flu!

Some interesting results out of this meet... Tara Kirk beats Leisel Jones in the 100 breast, and Peirsol finishes 2nd in *both* backstroke events? You don't see that happen too often.

I hope Libby's 52.99 stands. That' a hell of a swim. If a time trial can count, I don't see why a mixed relay at a sanctioned event with officials wouldn't.

  • Jane - their time was fast enough to have won the Gold in Melbourne so I'm assuming it was fast enough to qualify them for Beijing.

  • there's someone missing in the mixed relay, it's 3aussies vs 4usa. Is in there someone missing or it really was 3vs4? hahaha

  • Thanks, Michelle. Just want to make sure that monkey's been kicked off their backs (breasts, flys and frees)!

Kudos to Lenton, but I'd be surprised if it counts. Granted she could have had to swim it through some Phelps-generated turbulence, but it's also possible she caught a nice draft and that wouldn't be fair to other women who have never competed (nor will ever) under the same circumstances. If nothing else, I hope her time inspires her and other women to know that it can be done again.

  • Glad you are all well Brendan. =)

So the American men won every event?..with a lot of events finishing one two, or one two three?..that's what I call dominating the field. =)

    oh, and yay Crocker!! =)
