Final Day of Namesnik has come to an end...

I have to admit that Blair and I skipped prelims last night in favor of Shrek 3. We did make it for finals this morning though and there were a few fun races to watch. It's always great to see Mike swim the mile. Last year he looked like he might throw up on the pool deck when it was over but this year he was obviously improved finishing 2nd to Vendt with Margalis finishing 3rd.

Another race we really enjoyed was the ladies 200 fly. Jemma Lowe from the Welsh team not only set a new pool record but a new Welsh National record in a really gutsy swim out touching Kim Vandenberg and Kaitlin Sandeno who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In other races Peter Vanderkaay took the 100 Free, Chris DeJong the 200 Back and Katie Hoff the 200 Breast. You can find full results at Swimming World Magazine and USA Swimming.

I'm posting a few pics here on the blog for now and will add more to the Gallery when I get home and have a chance to sort through them all. Peter Bick was a rockstar and let me borrow one of his big lenses and even hooked me up to some strobes during today's relay so I got some nice shots. It's been fun hanging out with Blair, Lala, Peter and Tim again and going to the Dairy Barn in Milan (Tim's hometown) yesterday afternoon for a belated Birthday celebration. Tim's family has graciously invited us all over for dinner tonight and then we all head home in the morning. Ann Arbor is such a beautiful town that I almost wish I could stay a few more days and see more of it. There's always next year!

  • Oh my GOSH! So happy to see Chris DeJong back in the water. It was so sad in the previous meets to see him there but standing on the sides.

How was Shrek 3? Worth going to see in theatres or should I wait til it comes out on DVD?

Mikey swimming the mile is interesting. He rocked this meet, man. That kids been on fire lately. I was really happy too see Kaitling bounce back and win a couple as well.

  • I like how all the Michigan guys are sporting some scruff.

    I can't wait to see Shrek 3!!

Sounds like you guys had a fun time. I wish I could have been there, but like you said, there's always next year!

  • WE'RE GOING TO HAWAII! Erin and I are going as part of the official party at the NCSA All-American Meet training trip/meet from June 3-10! I am stoked!

You all better keep an eye on all the Radio pieces and coverage from that meet - even if Brendan isn't involved!

  • We had a fantastic time at Timmay's house. His family is super cool and we now know where Tim gets it. I think I could definately go back to Michigan!

I didn't know that you had decided on Michigan for sure Kristina. I'm glad you made you decision to go there.
Congrats on Hawaii Jason. Use lots of sunblock. You sure don't have much time to plan. And don't worry, if you cover the meet I am sure I will read about it. Brendan doesnt have to be at every meet. It just makes it much more fun.

  • This Hawaii thing came completely out of the blue. My wife and I had always dreamed of going to Hawaii, but we never could make it happen.

This is like a first honeymoon (even though I'm working the whole time!)

Thanks, Mrs. H! I'm so excited that the NCSA people are working us into their plans. This sounds like a really cool meet.

Basically, they are trying to create a meet that is similar to the McDonald's game in basketball. Take all the best 16-18 group kids and let them have a fun time while showcasing them.

They have three excursions planned, so I get to see Pearl Harbor and go to two beaches. These guys are professional at setting up trips.

Thanks for the kind words, Lala! I'm excited. I'm glad I get to get my tan while working! Last summer's nats gave me a tan until the winter!
