Some Brendan links....

Work, dedication keep Olympic dreams afloat
While other kids his age can't wait to dive into the ocean, Gemmell continues to train at least 20 hours per week in the pool with the Olympics always in the back of his mind.

"It can be tough sometimes, but I don't mind the work," Gemmell said. "Everything we do is to prepare for the 2008 trials and to make the team. What gets me going is that every morning when I wake up around 4:30, I look at my wall in my room where I have a picture of Brendan Hansen. He's the world record holder in the 100- and 200-breaststroke. There's a quote talking about what drives him. I look at that every day."

Lawrence North High School will hold a clinic from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday featuring Brendan Hansen, an Olympic gold medalist who holds the world record in the 100- and 200-meter breaststrokes. Cost is $50. Ten spots left.

  • I really liked that Andrew Gemmell story. I especially liked the fact that he is a distance swimmer and choses to use Brendan as inspiration. It's really a great testimony to both of them! Usually people are most insprired by swimmers who swim their stroke.

Brendan's calendar is really busy this time of year.. and I bet Eddie is still beating them up in training. The LRF people said the entries are rolling in for people to walk with Bren. It's such a great thing. I always say this, but the fact that he does this charity work makes him that much more admirable.
I got a quick email from Michelle today, She is "EXHAUSTED! " Hopefully we'll get to hear from her soon.

  • Well gang I almost missed the notice for the Brendan clinic here in Indy this Saturday. It is all of 1.5 miles from my house. I will be going and hope to get some nice candids and a group shot or two.

    I will post some later.

  • Yay Peter! How nice to get some of your photo from B's clinic! I would love to see a clinic. The kids must get so excited. This is what is great about this sport. The really great ones do these clinics for the little ones. Some day we will have some new Olympian say he is great of Brendan Hansen inspired him!

  • Peter if I wasn't so busy moving I would almost think about popping up to Indy myself. I didn't know about the clinic either. I'm sure you will get some great shots as usual. :)

  • Peter, please let Bren know you are there. I will also let him know if I am talking to him between flights. He will be upset if you are flashing away and don't stop and say hi.

  • Hey Mrs. H. I will be sure to say hi and wish Brendan well. Glad he is coming this way!

  • I wants to wish a Happy Father's day to MrH and Gpop and Peter today and all you other BHO guys who are Daddies. I hope you Papas have a wonderful day and that you get lots of hugs! You deserve em!

  • The clinic was great and Brendan has a gift for working with kids. The kids learned a lot and had a great time. Some of the questions were priceless and Bren shared 2 'embarassing moments' with them. You will have to ask him what those were.

I have sent a bunch of images to Michelle and Lala so you may see them in the gallery.

Brendan also confirmed he will be in Indy for Natiionals. He said there was a bad rumor that he was going elsewhere.

Mrs. H, I hope Brendan uses the gift....Nationals is coming up!

Happy Fathers day to all that applies to.

  • What? Did Peter give Brendan some rubber gloves and a paint mask to make sure he stays healthy this time around? *grin*

Also, there are two confirmed swimmers not going to nationals, but are heading to France for a money meet (Beard, Aaron Peirsol). I've heard there are up to three more big names, but don't know. I could see Hayley Peirsol following Aaron, but I don't know.

Right now, because there are rumors flying out there - every big name is going to be suspected of going to France until they confirm otherwise.

  • We have booked our hotel rooms and Brendan is coming home with us. So if that does not seal the deal Jason, nothing will.

Man you are so very close with the gift thing! haha

  • It sounds like the clinic was awesome!
Happy belated Father's Day to everyone here at BHO!

By Blogger Lena, at 6/18/2007 9:20 AM

  • Not doubting you and Brendan at all, Mrs. H. Just stating that pretty much every big name out there is considered a possibility for this French meet. Since Nationals is only selecting for the Japan International Grand Prix event, it is understandable that some U.S. swimmers wouldn't mind taking a look at the money in the French meet.

Anywho, I'm still blown away by what Ziegler did yesterday. That swim was insane.
