First Tinglings of Olympic Fever...

You guys.... I am getting the fever.

NBC is starting the subtle poisoning of my nervous system...

Take your first dose. Watch the video!

I hope they do the swimming events justice.

There is an opposite idea brewing in this great country of ours. That idea is of an Olympic boycott. The Washington Post as well as other papers have reported that President Bush has been urged by some members of Congress to boycott the Olympics.

A resolution introduced by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, California Republican, calls for the U.S. government to take "immediate steps" to boycott the games unless the "Chinese regime stops engaging in serious human rights abuses against its citizens and stops supporting serious human rights abuses by the governments of Sudan, Burma and North Korea against their citizens."

Having spoken to athletes who were part of the USA team who did not participate in the 1980 games in Moscow, I feel that a decision to boycott would be an empty statement and only punish the athletes. All the athletes.

  • Oh man, did you catch in that clip ....Kitajima screaming! Mother of God that face is going to haunt me to the day I die. IF they boycott this Olympics Brendan will never get a chance to wipe that clip clean.

  • Oh my goodness! I'm so excited for the Olympics! I can't wait.

Please, please, please don't let there be a boycott of the Games. It would just be way too sad.

  • I don't think there will be a boycott bt you never know with this crazy government. As I told Lala, there is no way that would be proposed if those politicians had ever trained for an Olympic event themselves. No matter what problems we think we have with another country there is no way that boycotting the Olympics would make it a better situation. I just don't understand how they would think it was right to steal someone's dream away.

On a happier note, that clip was alot of fun to watch. It reminded me how much I love watching the Olympics. Even the random events that I would normally not watch. It's also nice to see the highlights from Athens again. By the way,Bren was way in the beginning of the clip. That shows how much more important he is than that little ol' Kitajima. :)

  • Did anyone else get a kick out of the whole "ballerinas of the sky" thing?

Kitajima was just added because it was a screaming montage.

Brendan still occasionally gets that "I'm going to Disneyland!" look during that one to two second wait for the next guy to touch the wall.

If there was some dramatic music and a finger-biting montage, Peirsol would have been in there as well.

Ah, memories... light the corners of my mind... Misty water colored memories...

    I'm stopping now.

  • I don't think there will ever be enough political will for a boycott to happen and politicians who propose it are just trying to put some pressure on the Chinese government. They can't afford to host the games without US dollars which would vanish if we boycotted.

That film clip gave me some serious olympic fever. I can't wait for next summer now. I wonder where I'll be...

  • There have already been two Olympics that we missed out on due to boycott. Then Russia did a retaliatory boycott in 1984. So it can happen. I assume NBC has already paid for the rights.

I think some nice sponsor needs to sign Brendan up. Sponsor him, and have him pimp their product on TV commercials before th Olympics to get p[eopel in teh mood. Nike? Maybe Toyota! Yeah, Bren can be hunting in a Toyota truck with some other Olympians. ( I chose Toyota because they sponsor USA swimming) Maybe he can fill up at a ConocoPhillips station. Or Mutual of Omaha.

  • It's hard to imagine another boycott. I hope it's just all talk and the government doesn't go that route. I would be sad for everyone involved.

That tape was great! Olympic fever is hitting me pretty hard, too, as evidenced by the fact that I was misty eyed by the end of it :)

  • Awesome tape!!! So so so excited for the Olympics, I definitely want to go to the swimming trials--anyone else planning on going?

By Blogger cesca, at 9/04/2007 4:58 PM

  • Cesca, we have a total of 19 from our group going. Sure hope others will join us.

  • I have no sound at work, but I think the Gladiator soundtrack was playing in my head while watching the clip.

I really want to go to trials, but I'm not sure if I can swing it. Someone needs to become my new best friend so we can split a hotel room.
